Have you heard for Turet's (maybe Thuret's I'm not sure) syndrom - does it have to do something with basal ganglia?

Tourette syndrome. ofcourse it is a/s with basal ganglia lesions involving the indirect pathway tht leads to episodic flare ups of direct pathway (inc. in dopamine) resulting in tics (vocal or motor) Rx- pimozide there was an excellent documentary on discorvery once where 30 yr old male pt had tics since his teenage and the anti-dopaminergic drugs were'nt effective anymore; however they performed a surgery and implanted some electrodes tht were activatig his caudate nuclei(indirect pathway) and his tics subsided!

Thanks ssrpk! I have also watched it on Discovery TV but I haven't understood which part of basal ganglia was involved.
