Sorry about that, it does not seem to post! If given the weight of both kidneys, and one was heavier and lower in the body than the other, why is that? Is it normal? Could it be increased hydrostatic pressure in the heavy one? Does anyone have a clue?

This Q was asked on the boards!! Is there a physiologist or anatomist that can answer this Q? Maybe increased Hyd. pressure would increase the weight because more blood is in that kidney than the other at the same point in time (if it is possible to increase the pressure in one and not the other)? Or maybe the kidney had to hypertrophy due to the increased work it had to do from the increase in pressure, or could it be because of a stone? Do they form unilateraly or bilaterally? any ideas?

well even if it is due to hydronephrosis, why wudl it effect kidney's positioning, realize kidney's don't actually ascend, it only appears tht way due to the growth of fetal lumbar and sacral region! are u sure u are not missing anything or may be some clue in the question??

That is all the info I have on the Q, but if the kidney were to hypertrophy it would still apprear lower in the body because it is bigger, not because it actually descended!

It's also possible that one kidney had renal artery atherosclerosis, so it would undergo atrophy and the other kidney would have to hypertrophy because of the increased load. So because one atrophied, and the other hypertrophied there would be a large difference in size, weight, and position. Believe it or not, this Q was also asked
