Hey, since we know that lithium, divalproate and carbamazepine are all teratogenic, which is the mood stabilizer of choice in bipolar disorders during pregnancy?

Thanks in advance,

Planned Pregnancy, taper the Li/Valproic Acid gradually....

if the pt has been on Li/Valproic Acid, and has become pregnant then warn about dangers of cardiac defects (Li), Supplement with large doses of Folic Acid (Valproate) ......Only 10% of pregnancies affected...

Post partum, observe for PP depression/psychosis....Treat as indicated....
