Hi there: I did oasis trick today and it stated, : our data showed that u have already passed (dont remember exact words).....................I m feeling great today.......I want to say THANKS to the Almighty, my husband, my family and to this forum and all the members of this forum who really helped me alot....... I have never told about my story on this forum, although it could be an inspiration for working moms...Only working moms can understand that having so little and naughty kid and with full time work, it could be difficult to prepare for such a tougj exam. I only studied for approximatley 2 months. I started reading from April 1st and had my exam on June 7. I have been working full time 40 hours per week in a local hospital. I have one kid (21 months old) so have to take care of her, my home (cooking on a daily basis), my job and other things at the same time. It was very tough for me to study side by side wiht all those things in life but it was possible only due to my great husband who supported me much throughout that period (despite of his busy schedule at job). I even did not get enough time to revise whole course, some things I just read once due to time shortage...In summary, just want to say that Step I is doable, all u have to do is to study well with concentration (no matter how much time u take) and once u think that u have to pass this exam then u can do that, believe me. I used Kaplan Notes for Anatomy, Biochem, Physio, Pharma, Micro, Behavioral Sciences, HY for Neuroanatomy, Biostatistics, Genetics and offcourse Mosby's Rapid Review Goljan Series. My scores were: Q-Bank = 75% to85%, Q-Book = 80%, NMS = 70%, NBME = 460 I am waiting for my score. I'll let u know once i get those. Please feel free to ask any questions. Thank you.

Hi jiyaji,Heartiest congrats 4 passing step1.PLS TELL HOW ONE SHOULD MANAGE TIME FOR LAST 3-4 WEEKS OF STEP1.I’M FEELING BEWILDERED WHAT TO REVISE & WHAT NOT. I have done kaplan q book. SCORE IS JUST AV. 60%.I HAVE DONE 4-5 BLOCK OF Q-BANK. SHOULD I STOP DOING Q-BANK 4 NEXT 3-4 WEEKS SO THAT I GET MORE TIME TO REVISE KAPLAM NOTES. I have seen from forum that u live in Toronto. r u IMG in canada or canadian graduate.I ,m IMG.My step1 is in Aug.What about physician job chances in Canada 4 an IMG.I’ve heard that Canada is opening up its health care jobs 4 IMGs.PLS throw some light on this as u may be reading Canadian newspapers etc. & in touch with events there. If u would NOT mind, pls also provide ur e-mail ID.thanks & best wishes, Kps0007@rediffmail.com

Hi goljan fan: Thank you so much for your wishes. I could only tell u what I did and how I read in the last couple of weeks, may be not all are okay with it. I think the best way to go through last weeks is getting through important and high yield subjects/topics. 4 weeks equal to a month and a month is enough to revise things. Go through Histopathology (HP)and Pathophysiology (PP) well as almost 40% to 50% questions are those or at least 30%, I got most of the HP and PP, other than that behavioral and pharma, I had little biochem and micro things and thank God only few calculations and genetics questions.......(I have found that if u r a normal student and not doing anything specifically in genetics, u r unable to understand those things and in the exam, it is the most difficult part i think) so my advise would be that dont waste time in those things at which in teh end, u will have the same positionas it was earlier....so do FA, HY points and topics and try to do HP and PP as much as u can. Do learn Q-bank (yes, its not only a mcqs source but a learning source too), do mcqs from Q-bank/book and do take NBME, it would help u much, i m telling u, and do USMLE CDs, dont go for every online tests, that is my best suggestion.......keep urself calm and think always that it is a doable thing and i can do it........... I am an IMG residing in Toronto. Well, about the IMG's situation in Canada especially Ontario province is that the Govt. is going to open more positions and trying to make the process easier but u know what, the system here is not at all very open for IMG's (sorry if someone gets hurt). I have been here for some time and have researched much about it, but its not going to work for us (IMGs), u know.....They have done quite a few changes and have opened more positions for residents plus they have this problem in their political agenda even but still it could take couple of years to come into action properly. If u would ask me, I wont advise anyone at this point to go for canadian exam as I have almost 10 of my freinds who have passed Evaluating and Qualifying part and still are out of the area and believe me most are going for MLE or PLAB or some local courses in Ultrasound or Research areas here.....I'm talking about IMG's and especially about new immigrants.....I hope u'll get some idea from this about the position here..... Please let me know if any further clarification is required or about any new thing u want to ask. good luck! and take care.

Hi jessica: Thanks much. Actually I'm working as a Medical Transcriptionist/Assistant here and by that supporting my family and enjoying the hospital environment too........ I am not going for MCC exam (at least not now; may be at some time when i would feel that the environmetn is good enough for IMGs), the reasons i have already given. Yes, u have to pass EE and QE before getting residency here.....they are making some changes but still u have to pass Evaluating exam (EE) and Qualifying (QE I) before residency. u can check it out and confirm that also on www.mcc.ca so u can get a good idea........... Now other things that u could do here (just to be intouch wtih ur medicine and to support ur family) are courses in TRANSCRIPTION, ULTRASOUND, RESEARCH etc. here so that u will be paid excellently finally and offcourse will give u at least some satisfaction....... please feel free to ask anything. Thanks again.
