I was a silent reader of this forum, today I received step 2 scores and was 250/99. I taked step 2 on July 13, 2005. This is my first post in this forum that help me prepare for boards and I have the desire to share with others my experience. The exam was tricky, so read careful, internal medicine was the most especially endocrinology, pneumology, rheumatology, be sure to know the pathophysiology of common diseases and as you study ask yourself what is the NEXT STEP or what laboratory should I first order. Cardiology ,Gastro, Neuro, was equally tested. Next Pediatrics was heavily tested especilly adolescents, vaccines, neonatology ( Know it well ), infectious diseases, Next OB- GYN, most GYN including adolescent issues like STD's, contraceptives, PID and complications ( TOA, Ectopic pregnancy,Eclampsia, Preclampsia) Ovarian torsion, in OB third trimester bleeding was a must and mechanism of labor (know stage of labor and what to do if prolonged latent phase or arrested active phase, etc. know well stage of labor and management ), surgery was TRAUMA( Kaplan covers all, thats all you need ), Psychiatry from kaplan and usmle world thats all you ned to know, Please know well preventive medicine especially vaccines indications, screening test, know what is the prevention of travelers diarrhea. Read this forum is a must. Kaplan books and do USMLE world is a must, read the explanation and try to understand the concept, this exam is based on concepts, and prepare physically and mentally for a long day. Thanks for all people who posted in this forum, I'm open for questions

Thanks for sharing your experience and congratulations on a great score. I am getting ready to take the exam early next year and have only BLueprints(for all the subjects tested).I also passed PLAB recently so I have read Oxford Handbook of Clinical medicine and emergency medicine.Do you think I should get Kaplan? What else?I am determined to score high on step 2,so any help you might be able to offer would be great! Thanks and good luck with your future plans, Natasa

thanks Dev,nisha, natasa, chemamr. Nisha Kaplan and usmle world is all that you need to IM, be sure to know the pathophysiology of common diseases ( they ask me a lot ) and try to think next step or initial step, for example a case of organophosphorate poisoning, the initial step to control symptoms, atropine vs. pralidoxime among others. Read answers of UW that help a lot and present a good explanation of concepts. Preventive medicine from Kaplan and First Aid. the UW scores was 75. My best advice is to do questions and questions, I remember now , study the diference between heat stroke, heat exhaustion, heat cramps. Good luck in your test. Natasa, I know about students who use Blueprints of all subjects and do well on the exam, I do not use it because I dont have the money to buy it, my recomendation complement BP with usmle world, this questions were tricky but the explanations complement your study, for surgery try to read well trauma, for all subjects BP and UW . Good luck in your exam, and dont panic, the mental actitude accounts. chemamr, 75 on UW, read well the explanations
