Hi, I don´t know if write this topic is a good idea, but if someone can answer me it would help me a lot, because i have no idea about it and i would be more calm. I´m an IMG, from Mexico, i plan to do general surgery in USA, i´ve passed step 1, now i´m preparing for 2CK. I think it´s more probable that I get a J1 than a H1B, but my fiancee is US temporary resident and she will be permanent resident in 4 years approx., so my question is since we (my future wife and me) apply for my status change to temp resident how long takes? I mean, if I enter to my residency with a J1 and finish it with it (because with J1 you can NOT change your visa status), at the end of my residency we could apply for my US residency. Since then how much time does it take to get my temporary residency (of course if I´m accepted, I think I will)????? Thank you for your inputs in advance.

If you enter residency with J-1, you won't be able to apply for green card at the end until you either spend 2 years in Mexico or get a waiver. No exceptions.

thank you yelenatx, but I know that about 2 years in my country or a waiver. Maybe I wasn´t clear enough. After those 2 years or a waiver. Then if I apply to US temp residency, how much time does it last? thank you for ALL your inputs
