what is the difference between cerebellar , optic and vestibular nystagmus???? If the pathologic nystagmus is based in the central nervous system (CNS), such as with a cerebellar problem, the nystagmus will be in any direction except horizontal. Vestibular nystagmus is always horizontal, and may be spontaneous or positional. Spontaneous vestibular nystagmus is nystagmus that occurs spontaneously, regardless of the position of the patient's head. plz explain the above??????

nystagmus is basically correction of eye positions when the eye fields are not in proper allignment so, partly the reason is horizantal conjugate gaze are regulated more precisely than vertical gazes by vestibular system a/a frontal conjugate eye fields via PPRF [works in opposition] As flocullonodular lobe is receving afferent inputs from vestibular nerve fibers and sending efferents to the vestibular nucleus; lesions involving flocullonodular lobe should result in horizontal nystagmus with the direction of the fast component to side of the lesion [Kaplan] vertical gazes are controlled by frontal eyefields via rostral interstitial nucleus in concert with cerebellum!
