Yes, I know what you mean. Hopefully you will be able to work something out. As I said before, the reason why I tried to get a letter was to be as competitive as possible. At the same time, Deanīs Letters were just released today nationwide. That means that before yesterday, no programs had seen the letter. Nevertheless, before yesterday I already had 5 interview invitations. In other words, it is not essential to have a Deanīs Letter in order to get interviews. To what specialty are you applying to? How many interviews have you gotten so far? Did you do any electives in US programs? Anyway, take care!

Hi. Im applying to psychiatry. I graduated 2 years ago from Universidad de Monterrey. I live in New Orleans LA now, when I got here I started an observenship at LSU, and working in research as a volunteer. After I passed my step 1 they ofered me a possition on a fellowship of psychopharmacology, but because of hurrecaine it has been suspended. I havent applied yet, Im waiting for my Transcript to arrive for me to submit my application (its already done). I plan to apply to about 40 or 50 programs.

Hi everybody!

Hey Lorena congratulations about your 2 CS it's great to know that you are more advanced now in the USMLE process.

drgaxmac congratulations too, I know you did it well, and it's good to know that a lot of mexicans are now advancing in this tough road.

Thank you all your your advice and I'm studying for the step one now, I have the princeton review book, and I can realized that there's a lot of things to memorize, but I'm doing my best.

I'm going to the states next year for the first time and I want to find out a lot of things about hospitals, observerships and all that stuff, I hope everything goes perfect.

Well guys we'll be in touch and it's good to find some more mexicans here.

Congrats Drgaxmac!!!. smiling face I know that feeling!!, I was a lazy student as well!!.grin

  #208

Hola everybody!

Congratulations drgaxmac!!

Thank you jaime for your congratulations and PM&R, silatk for your nice wishes

and welcome mxshrink!

I am in my hometown now and after some days of vacation and eating delicious "todos Santos" mexican food i am ready to start a rotation in psychiatry tomorrow to get my california letter without defficiencies -thats why i havent written lately- anyway...finally last week i got my first invitation for interview in IM and i have a second one for family medicine. Some programs have me "in hold" until i receive my cali letter, and i got my first rejection today ( expected). MY interviews are scheduled for december and january and i got them before the deans letter was downloaded (i didnt get one) so for some programs is probably not that important.

PM&R thats awsome you have got many invitations and mxshrink : apply asap!! and let us know how you do.

chema...dont loose hope... programs may have you in hold you know. I wish you the best of luck for your CS...youīll do great. Have you got your CK score yet?

all the best my dear friends,

Lorena

not yet. iīm desperated. There should be an option to pay to ECFMG the money for FedEx!!, it would be better than being waiting all these days !!!. I need some patience, i know.

thank you Lorena for your wishes. If this match doesnīt result, no problem, i would do somethings in this next year and will apply next match with 2x or 3x more chances for the next match.

Hey Lorena, congratulations on your two invitations so far; youīll get tons more, thatīs great!

Congratulations to drgaxmax too, it really sounded ever since you took your test that you absolutely passed that test, great for you, good job. That was the hardest one, itīs all downhill from here although you still have to study and not lose focus but youīll see how step 2 will be much easier now.

Mxshrink, good luck with your psych applications. I agree with Lorena, apply as soon as possible. Donīt know about psych programs but for PM&R there are lots of programs that have a nov 15 deadline to consider you. I heard of some people that got invites without their transcript uploaded, maybe that could be your case too, I donīt know. Especially if you have strong step scores, Iīm sure you can catch someoneīs attention without all your paperwork ready yet. At the same time, if you are going to get your transcript soon then it should be ok, especially if you are willing to go anywhere. Itīs a shame what happened in New Orleans, hope everything is better now. I was going to apply to LSUīs PM&R program, a very good one; had to change plans of course. Sounds like your CV and overall program should be pretty good; Iīm sure youīll do just fine.

Chema, no let down! You have the right attitude. Youīll do great on step 2 and hopefully will get some invites or be able to scramble. Donīt worry about CS, sounds like you know what you want and how to get it; if you do practice youīll be just fine. Have you done any rotations in the US? If not, I definitely recommend it. You wonīt need it though, hopefully; keep up the work!

Finally, Iīve read about this Oasis trick; could anyone share with me how it works please (either through this forum or a PM); two friends of mine are waiting for results and are dying to know; they could really use this trick. Thanks so much.

I think everyone in this forum should feel very proud about themselves and every other member too, take care everyone and good luck!

i only did 1 month of observership in Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Thatīs all.

Oasis trick: you go to ECFMG, IWA like if you are gonna apply again for the step you are interested and follow the steps to apply again, and they will tell you: we are sorry, but our records tell us that you have already passed this step, etc, etc.

Hi my name is Javier Mejía I am from Monterrey, about to finish my social service and I am preparing to take the first step. I am really happy I came across with this forum, it looks like a lot of help. Can anyone of you tell me how long it took you to prepare for the first step?

Have a great weekend,

Javier.

  #213

I lasted 6 months studying for step 1.

Hey Chema, thanks a lot for the ECFMG trick, it was very helpful! Itīs great that you observed at Mayo; did you get a Letter of Recommendation? If so, that would be even greater. Hey Javier, welcome! I agree with Chema, 6 months is what it took me too to be ready for Step 1. At least in my case, it took that long because at first I thought I was going to review and thatīs it; but soon I realized I had to learn lots of stuff from scratch because I had never seen this or that in medical school. The key I thing is for you to get a calendar and make a daily schedule of your study goals; that helped me a lot. Hope this helps!

  #216

Hi Javier, I agree, 6 months. Remember the questions, thats the most important part. Are from UdeM or UNI?.

  #217

Hi guys!!!!

Thanks a lot for the tip. I was also planning to take about 6 months to prepare for the first step. The calendar idea is also great!!!

I graduated from UANL.

Have a great day!

  #218

Hi guys and Ladies.

I recived my score. I got an 82/200 , not bad i think. Not too good either. I am happy cause all the hard work finally paid off.

Thanks to all the great mexicans here on this forum. Coudl not have done it without you guys, knowing that there are some paisanos going through the same process makes things a lot easier.

Thanks to all.

Hey Drgaxmac, congratulations, good job! Yes, it definitely feels great to pass the test! One down, a couple to go but you are done with the hardest of them all. As you said, it definitely helps and feels good to know that other mexicans are out there doing the same thing. If others can, we can, right? Good job! Youīll see how much easier it will be for you to get ready for step 2 since you already have the experience, the confidence and, most importantly, the knowledge! keep it up!

  #220

CONGRATULATIONS Drgaxmac!. Once you passed this test you automatically passed step 2, just dont give it to much time to start studying. Apply as soon as possible. And I think thats a great score!!, dont compare your self with all the 99's you see here (which I think a lot of them are bloff).

  #221

Congratulations Drgaxmac! I agree with PM&R guy and Mxshrink..step 2 is much nicer exam, you already passed the toughest of all and with a good score !nod!

Welcome to the forum Javier! 6 months should be enough to prepare for step 1 , just get the right material since the beginning, be organized and constant, and practice lots of questions!!!

I received 2 more interview invitations for FM and 2 rejections. It is good i am in Mexico now, i am way more relaxed being with my family.

Thanks guys,

all the best

  #222

Hey Lorena, congratulations on your interviews, sounds great! So far, Iīve gotten 7 interviews and about 5 rejections; thatīs fine, itīs part of "playing" this "game". Yes Jaime, practicing questions is just as important as studying! Good luck!

  #223

Congratulations DrGaxMac, well done buddy!!, the next ones are easier, each time more and more. grin

Congratulations Lorena for the interviews. smiling face

i have just come back from Houston, i did step 2CS yesterday, letīs wait for the result. I feel confused I donīt know if iīll pass or not, the good thing is that i can repeat it and the bad thing is that costs $1,200 + travel.

I also recieved today (well, i donīt know if i recieved the mail yesterday or when because i was in Houston) my score of step 2CK. I expected more because according to the NBME 1 i was going to get 241. I only got a 92/226. That explains my current performance in the match until now.
