thatīs exactly the description of what im experiencing...I wouldnt be surprised if I failed...and this test is statistically the "easiest" (82% passing rate for IMGs, as opposed to 65% and 75% for step 1 and ck)...anyway, thnx for the words lorena &spit.... iīll just wait... I received last week the medical education credentials confirmation form, u know, the form 327-A that ECFMG sends ur medical school to verify that u actually went there.... I thought they only sent that form after u actually passed all the steps and were elligible to certification, anyway, im glad they sent it because that way, if I pass the cs right now i can be certified by july =)...i plan to go to dallas and try to get a job as soon im certified, just while I get the residency position....I also want to take step 3, to make the application stronger....but im having trouble deciding when to take it.....whats ur advise?...is it reccomended that I have step3 by the time I make the application?...by the interviews?....or just before i get to the residency?...will I get more interviews if i have cleared step 3 by the time I make the application?....im going to apply basically to programs that are known to sponsor H1b.....i wanna hear ur thoughts....thnx again

Hey noxar, I havenīt taken step 3 so Iīm not sure I know all the answers to your questions. Itīs definitely possible to get a residency spot without step 3. Having said that, it definitely canīt hurt to already have it on your CV by the time you apply. I think thatīs the best moment to have step 3 already taken and passed: by the time you apply so that you can show it on your CV and try to attract programs. If your application is very similar to someone elseīs with the only difference being that you have step 3 and he/she doesnīt, I think you have a bigger chance of getting an interview than the other person, know what I mean? Having step 3 does not guarantee an interview, but it does increase your chances, granted the rest of your CV is attractive as well. If you plan on applying for H1b visa then you know that you need step 3 to be eligible, so thatīs another reason to take it as soon as possible. I think programs donīt want extra trouble and worrying about sponsoring an H visa is more than enough. They donīt want to also have to worry about whether you pass step 3 or not; they donīt want to risk not filling their spots. ie. have step 3 done by the time you apply and neither you nor the program will have to worry about that. An added bonus I think is that you will not have to worry about it during internship which would be pretty sweet. Hope this helps!

noxar311, Tranquilo! Don't worry about the test. You did fine I am sure. Yesterday after the test I felt bad becaue I forgot to do some stuff and in the notes I felt too rush and feel like I did not write averything that I was supposed to. I was worry that my writing was legible. I think I know how you are feeling Many of the people that I spoke with after the test felt the same. The time is not enought I felt. But Iguess there's a purpose for it. I am at LAX waiting to board to go to Oakland. Relax noxar. Good day to all.

Hi guys, i'm back, finally i got internet. Noxar: Step 3 is important if you require an H1B visa and if you have bad scores, then it can be a bonus for your application but don't worry about it, if you wanna do it, do it, if you don't, don't do it, it's not that important, for example, look at Lorena, she didn't take it and she got an excellent spot for her residency. So, as you want. Oh, about your feelings, it's completely normal, after my 2CS i really didn't know if i was gonna pass it or not, another friend of mine from Romania also was very very confused, he was sure he was gonna fail, so don't worry, of course, we both passed it. Karla: you did the correct thing, believe me. Yes, Guadalajara is very nice city to live (nothing to do with Mexico city for example, this latter is awful in my personal opinion, so much traffic, so many people, crime, etc.).

hi chema..i know what ure saying about step3.....but I got visa issues, i dont have a permanent resident status, so in my case, if I want to get an H1, taking step 3 is a must....the question for me is WHEN to take it,rather than IF..... I got one question though...how long did it take in your case, chema, to get the score report for step3?...does it take approx the same amount (4-6w) of time that the other 3??

Hi NOXAR, I think the sooner you clear step 3 the better, it will make your application stronger, if you have it for your interviews, it is something the PD wont have to worry about with you so thats a plus over other candidates. I havent taken it because I dont have visa issues but I plan to take it during my first year of residency because i want to make sure I get a good score- in your case though because you require an H1visa, then yes, take it and take it as soon as you feel ready, besides I think the closest to your CK exam, the easier it will be because you still have your clinical knowledge nice and fresh. I hope this helps to make up your mind.

Hi everyone!! I haven't written for a while, lately I've been a little bit depressed, not a lot, but I get frustrated when I realize that friends from my generation are already finishing their residencies in Mexico, some of them are doing subspecialties or "diplomados" in colposcopy, or just finishing pediatrics, etc, and I am stuck here as a general practitioner, just saying and hoping that I will study to finish the steps but I can't seem to start studying. I have a picture of my generation in my room, and other pictures of friends in med school, and from the group I can't beleive that I am one of the few that is still a general practitioner, I mean, I can't beleive that with my grades, and qualities (modestia aparte), I am where I am at. People who I know flunked subject after subject, that even flunked their first try on the professional exam and had to repeat it, are already pediatritians or obgyn docs. I guess they had their act together better than me. Just wanted to get my feellings off my chest, sorry if I sound depressed or pathetic, ejeje, well, tomorrow is another day and hopefully tomorrow I will start another chapter in anatomy. Take care all!!

Dont worry Yolando i think more than one of us has been through that feeling more than once while being in this long journey-rollercoaster. Hang in there. You be ok, believe me i ve been there, keep up with anatomy, once you ve cleared step 1 youll know what i mean. The feeling is worth it. Hope it helps bye

Yolanda, I am sorry to read you are feeling sad.... you know? Dr.gaxmac is right. It is normal, in a certain degreee to get depressed sometimes and I completely understand the feeling, when you see your friends doing specialties and you are still a general practitioner, but think of it this way: the road you are taking is harder, but in some years you will be doing better than them!!. In your path you will always find people who wont believe in you, just dont pay attention to them, the most important thing is that you keep focused in what you want. When I got discouraged, I studied what I liked the most...maybe you dont like anatomy?? (I personally hate it, and when I was studying anatomy, I was in a bad mood and frustrated) so, if thats your case, give you a little break and switch to your favorite subject. Little tricks like that help sometimes. Hope you feel better soon, Lorena
