Hi Cedrick: do you mean when can i go to the USA?, is that an invitation ?, if so, i'd like to cause i need to practice my english, and i guess the best way is being there. I'm going to go from July to September to Ohio for an externship.

I did national exam too, i passed it in my 1st attempt and I did the whole 1st year of general surgery in 46 Clinic (IMSS), then at the very beginning of the PGY2 I quit to start struggling with this "american" dream. So, in some way that gives me confidence and peace that if I can't get a spot in the states i always can come back and pass again the national exam and do my residency in Mexico.

So Cedrick, what have you been doing since 1997 (your graduation date)???

Ok english then

I graduated in 1992 whent to Costa Rica did Internship, but in the midle of it my dad gave a trip to Thailand so I went once in a life opportinity
then I did my intership in Celaya Guanajuato Mexico,Hospital General
and man did we do things there I got a lot of practice
teh Social servive year in a small village Jarretaderas Nayarit near Vallarta
from 1996-1997 worked in Hospital regional de Vallarta
summer of 1998 started this american dream
got married 1999
baby 2000
take care of baby since then, never stopped trying to do my exams now that the baby is in kinder
and I am able to sleep and get my brain going again
I will take the test this summer
Now in all this year there was NADIE,Naiden como dicen en los ranchos who to talk about this from Mexico
So there you have it

  #1182

i always think that having a wife and children is a motivation rather than anything else. In fact, i think to get married during my residency (1st year) once i can start it.

When you say you never stopped trying to do the exams, you mean you have done them several times?.

Yes i know what you mean. I think it's very important to have a support from someone who is going to the same goal than you, and the best is someone from the same country, another mexican, a group of mexicans, because it's not that easy to take another road (different than most mexican students that go for the national and stay there in mexico), it's hard to start and it's harder to keep going in this road.

So you did your social service in nayarit, I was born in Tepic, Nayarit and i lived there until my career when i had to move to guadalajara to study in the UdG.

It's nice to meet you Cedrick. We're in touch grin

well i finally had the courage to take an nbme today and i did ok, got 480. i was actually surprised since i thought i would get much lower. considering i still have two and a half months left i think i'm going pretty good. gotta focus on hematology and renal. do you guys think its possible to increase to at least a 520 by august. i also have to consider the time i'm gonna spend watching the games. man, its gonna be tough

Hi There guys

Yes you need a good score to get in to a good program
but the standart of practice here in the states is very good
so all you really need is to pass and get in
hope that helps Barbara

  #1190

general malaise great score! It is possible to get it higher(sin albur). Look at your weaknesses obviously but also at the question you are missing. For example if they are the two-step one's.

good luck!

general malaise: my advise is to work in your weaknesses so in that way you can improve your "virtual" score.

Hi guys, how are you all doing? from what I read everybody seems to be doing fine! and this mexican thread/forum seems to be growing, which is great!

Welcome to the new members, and if I can be of any help , just send me a PM.

I havent been able to come because I dont have internet at home yet ...anyway, I have been so busy getting settled at my new appartment, etc. At the hospital everybody is absolutely the nicest people. Because I decided to start earlier -cauze I have been away from practice for 3 years, I was feeling a little uncomfortable about that - but now I am so happy, with less than a week there I feel waaay more comfortable...and even happier than before that I matched at this GREAT program....oh boy I AM SO EXCITED STILL!! all the residents are very nice, willing to help, I sense camaraderie, and the attendings are very approachable. My husband found an appartment 1 block from the hospital! so I walk there every day...The city is gorgeous, the weather is nice and warm...honestly I cannot ask for more, even the food at the cafeteria is good LOL (and free for residents).

Guys and gals, It is definetely worth it...work hard, study a lot and you will see : hard work does pay back.

Love,

sincerely Lorena

Hi Chemamr, I will, and I have a question for you, are the questions as long as in USMLE world or are they more similar to the ones on the USMLE cd.? Because the ones in usmle world are too long!.

  #1199

both, but there are definitely very long questions in the exam so be prepared to read fast if needed. But in my exam, they weren´t too many.
