Yolanda, Don't it could be consider normal but do not discouraged or frustrated. I should also be finishing my resideny or finishing my masters degree by now but I am not. I do not regret changing the course of my plans because even thought I am not where I planned to be I have done and seen great things that if I had followed my original path I would not have seen or done. I saw and experience other aspects of medicine, changing my whole perspective of what medicine should be. I can treat illnesses otherwise known as incurable or deadly. I had the opportunity of seen and feeling other ways of healing. This I have been applying with myself and some people great results!! Don't get discourage or feel down just look at what you now know and have done. A degree is worth only the value you give to it not what it says or seems to represent. Keep studying and if too tired then go for a little walk by yourself or someone who's company you appreciate.
Or meet someone new ro do something new.

i yolanda with all these comments, i've felt depressed or confused many times since i started this way towards a speciality in USA, oh yes, many times!, but you have to go on till the end, it's worth it. There is something called risk:reward ratio, if the reward is so big as to try it hard, no matter if you fail sometimes and it's risky, then try it, do it, i think this is the case with this thing. That's what I love about this forum, everybody tries to help at each other, to advise ourselves.

Hi everyone!!, thank you to all, I really appreciate your thoughts and advice. The thing is that once I realized that I am going to maybe wait for match 2008, because I don't think I can get a 99 in step 1 with 3 1/2 months of study, I got sadden. But who knows, maybe I can still make it, it is not likely but I will try. Hope that next time I login to the forum I have better news, jeje. Thank you all and GOD bless!

Yolanda, you can still make it for the 2007. Just plan very carefully and stick to the schedule. Present Step 1 in last week of August or first week of September. Step 2 CK in December and Step 2 CS in november. You will get all the results in time to register for next years match. Step 2 CK should be a little bit easier for you. So don't get discourage it is still possible. It is a lot of work but possible. How bad do you want it is the question?

Musuq: you should call the center where you wanna take your step 1 and ask them about available dates for you. I hope this helps with your question.

Hello again. Well, right now I am in the library a little bore and reading all this message make me feel more motivate. Hey, Yolanda I read some of your posts. Do not get sad watching all your classmates doing their residency right now . I think that there are different situationes and in the end you will get better preparation in your residency. I am not saying that in Mexico you can not get this but imagine doing your residency here in USA. You will get a high curriculum. Look , I finished my residency already in Mexico in OB/GYN and here I am trying to take this again. Some times I get frustrate too because all my friends are working right now with family and I can not even think about this because you have to dedicade full time for all this exams. But, in the end I think that you are going to feel with a lot satisfactions. Satisfactions for yourself and your family. Yolanda you will do fine just relax, study hard and do not think about the time. And Medusion , I am sorry if I am just right now answering your q.(?) . I am going to take the Kaplan course in Syracuse , Ny . I am living right now here and well the course that I am going to be taking is just in the center. There is not live lectures. But this is ok. because the others are more expensive. Well, see you later and I think we can beat this exams!!!! Do not you think??

Musuq, The test are to be taken at the end of each month. Be aware that for the giving timeline you would need to study 6 to 8 hrs everyday at least and also to keep in mind that after presenting Step 1 you will only be giving yourself at the most 5 days to relax and to forget about medicine and the Steps then you will star reviewing for Step 2 CK. By November 15 you should be in the middle or end of second reading for CK. This way you can take at least 2 weeks of intensive practicing and practicing and practicing and reading some for CS. Due to the short period of preparation you will need to practice cases and writing notes at least 8 hrs. for two weeks. Also reading D/D's. Therefore your goal is to due the test the last day available of November or 1 day available of December. Then after you come back from the center you relax for 1 or 2 days and continues reviewing for Step 2 CK. Your goal is to do CK by the last day available of Dicember. Very, very hard work but dooble. Due lots and lots of questions for each test. where I live I have 7 test centers where I can give Step 1 or CK. So when it comes to dates I have no problem with them. I live in the SF Bay Area. The name Silat is Indonesian for skill. It is the name giving to identify the martial arts of Indonesia and the Archipelago. The K stands for Kuntao. Kuntao is of Chinese descend rare to find and the word comes from the Hokkien dialect. Both martial arts I found them while in med school and have practicing since then. Both also focus in the proper functioning and the healthy maintenance of your body. Yolanda, Hope you are feeling better. A walk in the beach is very relaxing and also a time for deep thinking. Good day to all. I will be living for Mexico tomorrow mornig. I will go to GDL and drink some Tequila on everyone's behalf. Then later on I will go to Guanajuato and drink something there. Later on if giving the chance I will go to Oaxaca and drink some Mexcal and eat everything I see. And then maybe go to Veracruz and drink and eat whet ever I find. Yes i will be reading and Studying too. Tought schedule but somebody has to do it. Good day to all!!!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone! Silatk, thank you so much for your advice and encouragement! Have a safe trip. Chemamr, WOW guru member, jajaja, sounds funny, congrats, I think you are the first guru member I meet, jeje. drgaxmac, lorena, spitmetal, karla, you are so right, and thank you for your input and opinions. I am a little bit confused about where everyone is in their steps, maybe because I am kind of new to the forum, I think that it would be a good idea if each of us just quickly posted in the fase that we are for example: Me: Starting tomorrow to study (seriously) with anatomy for step 1. So that I can have a better idea who did what exam already or if you have alrady matched, what do you think? General malaise how are things going? Well, just wanted to say HI to everyone really quickly, I am know in the process of cleaning my room, jeje, I find it really therapeutical, jeje, is like I want to start tomorrow with a fresh start, and if I have a mess or my room (where I study), is a disaster I don't feel right, I don't know, I think I read it somewhere about fengshui or something like that, so that the energy can flow freely, jajaja, I think I already drank the tequila and toritos silatk is going to drink, jaja. Well, anyway good luck to everyone. Ciao

I'm back! Well... to not loose the current topic.... I am a Mexican, UAG graduate, ECFMG Certified, Starting residency in Pediatrics in July 1st in Texas Tech University. Sometimes, in this hard road to become a physician in the US, we ask ourselfs if the path we choose is the correct one, if all this effort and money will someday mean somenthing in our lifes.. I can tell personatelly Yolanda, now that I am in the other side... THAT IS 100% WORTH IT... Because, those classmates that you now envy, in future years tehy will envy you... Also you will be 100x more prepared comparing to them, becausethis hard road only makes you stronger and a better physician... Is normal to loose faith at some point, but think about what can you really become and fight for that dream...

Hi, I totally agree with laloblumīs words! For me itīs been almost 3 years since I first started seriously studying for step 1 (after 2 or 3 failed attempts to get in a role and really study before that) when I was doing my servicio social. Especially during the first 12 months of studying and as I realized how much stuff I had to go over, in some cases review, in some cases learn from scratch, it was very frustrating. But the desire to fulfill this dream was also very strong. Fortunately I had enough discipline and mental strength and support from friends, girlfriend, and family to go on and, as Laloblum said, now that Iīm on the other side, I know itīs been the best decision ever and it has made me a stronger person because I discovered new limits and new skills I didnīt know before that I had. If you really think this is what you want, go out there, reach it and grab it, you will not regret it ever! As Nike commercials say: "just do it". Iīm mexican, graduate from UDG, ECFMG certified, will be starting next month preliminary Internal Medicine at Pinnacle health Hospital in Harrisburg, PA and then 3 years of PM&R at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX Go for it ladies and gents!
