Chema, again, anything you need during this upcoming days please let us know.I´m sure you already saw by now, but there´s still 486 spots available for preliminary surgery. Chema: I found this web address: http://www.usmile.us/resstep.htm Scroll down to approximately the middle of the page and you will find links to old lists of unfilled positions; it has lists from 1999 to 2004; unfortunately it does not have the 2005 one. Hope this really helps!

Hey laloblum, one question: I began reading about the requirements to get the J-1 visa. ecfmg mentions that a letter called "statement of need (from the central office of the Ministry of Health in the applicant´s country of most recent legal permanent residence)" is necessary. How did you go about this? Is there someone in particular that you contacted? Any other helpful tips for the visa process? Again, congratulations on the prematch spot you got. Seems like you won´t be the only mexican going to the states soon; we´ll all be the mexican squad. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Thanx for the welcome msg´s medusin, drgaxmac, lorena, euroboy98 & karla. Congrats 4 all of U guys… the simply fact to have the guts to make it all the way there is just great! I stand up & give U a great applause. You’ve just become my mentors… What am I reading to prepare? Well... I’m using FA step 1 & 2, USMLE secrets step 1 & 2, QA step 1 & 2 from Appleton & Lange, CMDT´06, some Kaplan pre-test I just got & of course… my PDA information (a bunch of useful applications). Is that ok? drgaxmac: "... soy del mero Sinaloa donde se rompen las olas..." Nice to have a homeboy here! What is your actual status? I mean… R U in Mexico, do U work here, making your residency? It would be nice to contact each other… looking forward to get more info about the entire process. Some of my plans… I wanna present the national residency test to have something “secure” mean while I do the boards. Is it a good idea? Do U recommend to get full time on the boards? Where & when can I apply Step 1? Just know I can present it at GDL, not sure about place, date, price, etc. CONGRATs to U all guys. GOOD LUCK! & just as noxar311 says… don’t forget about us now that U R residents!!!.... We still need Ur advise and wisdom guys..... may the force be with us. CARPE DIEM!

one question guys....pardon my ignorance but exactly why is it important to know where some spots were left on previous years??....i would think that the only spots missing that would matter are this year´s.....¿?....do hospitals have "trends" on how many spots they keep unfilled?....

one more q to all of u guys..an specially confe...about jobs, exactly how does that work?..i mean,,,do you have to be ecfmg certified to have a job as physician in the us?.....or are the IMG guys that have not yet passed the usmle not working as physicians?.....im asking you this because my plan is to go to the us as soon as i get certified and try to look for a job..and then get myself some places to get some USCE or externships..... my point is....is being ecfmg certified makes a difference?, in terms on where can u work before applyyin to the residency?....

noxar311, As far as I know the only place you can work as a physician with your ECFMG certificate is Iowa and I believe is only temporary because you then have to pass Step 3. I am not sure what else Iowa requieres. Other then that you cannot work as a Physician in any state untill you are board certify and for this you must do a residency. Being ECFMG certify can help you obtain a good job within the health system. In the mean time you can work as a medical assistant, councelor, certain jobs within pharmacys,,etc. Also being ECFMG can help you obtain a job as a physician within a Federal Goverment Clinic but those clinics are only within federal property or Reservations. Also the military can hire you but of course you must become a soldier. Most IMGs are not working as physicians some us work within the mental health system, some as medical assistants, some in pharmacys, some at Mc Donalds, Walt Mart, etc. Some get financial help from their families or spouses and do not work and they just study for this tests. good to all!! chema hoy es tu dia!!! Good luck!!

euroboy98> The letter for the statement of need is requiered for the visa... you can start the process after you get your contract or a letter of intent... where it says the hospital you entered and the times... WHen you got this paper... called the "secretaria de Salud" in Mexico city and ask the for the office to handle the statement of need petition... They will send you an email with a doc document that you have to filled it and Fax it back to them.... in 3 weeks the letters is yours and you can continue your J1 visa process... The statement of need is essencial to get the sponsorhip... CHeck the ECFMG web page in the sponshorship program part!! And good luck to the scramblers...... may God be with you.

hey noxar, the exam is doable, most tested subjects: IM, then pediatrics and ob gyn, then psychiatry and finally sugery. Bio stats, like two questions. Read each question well. You ll do great, i hope i do too, i wish you the best.

Thank you very much Laloblum for your advice! Tomorrow we will all find out where we´ll spend at least the next 4 years of our lives! It´s pretty exciting and it´s hard to believe that this stage is finally over after so much hard work. But a new stage just as hard or maybe even harder soon begins. I look forward to it and I´m sure the others that participated in this year´s match do as well. For everyone still in the process of getting certified: Don´t let go; I can tell you that it definitely is not easy but it´s absolutely worth it; it´s a great feeling. Everyone can do it if you put in the effort! Congratulations everyone!

Spitmetal, Hi, I think that it dosent mater where you take the test (the only differance is that youll pay 100 more if you take it outside of the US.) The content is ALL of basic science. About the books, you can buy from the NMS series, the first aid for step 1 is a most, and try to get the Kaplan books, those are realy good. There is no such thing as a most important subject, they test everything, some subjects are larger and because of that it may seam that those are tested more, but they test EVERYTHING. About after you pay, it depends if you already sent the paper part of the application or not, if you have, you just have to wait for the permit to arrive. Hope this helps, good luck!.

WELCOME Spitmetal!! Congratulations to our mexicans who matched!!, please let us know which hospital and residency you will be for the next years, alright?? in my case, as i had said, this scramble thing is not working, nothing. I will probably have to wait for the next year to get into a position.
