Hi there! Im a little confuse about applying to step 1.
For Step 1 examination, I just have to pay the $600 dlls fee, then they will give me a USMLE identification number, and then I will have to schedule my date on the prometric center with my Id number?
Do they require any documentation of my medical school at this point, or till pasing S2CS for my ECFMG certification?
thank you.

  #3729

Dear bbb!! You are soo funny! You always make me laugh! It is quite awful if you go into the freeways at peak hours especially I-10 at Katie level OMG!!! and I-59 because they are always working on those but is not as bad if you stay within the loop which is the place where I spent most of my time when I lived there. Plus, Texas traffic is nothing compared to the kind of traffic we handle in a lot of Mexico's big cities right guys?? And driver's in Mexico are a force to be reckon' with (inluding me!! sticking out tongue ) so if you can handle a Mexico, city, Guadalajara, MTY or Tijuana traffic you are good to go!

By the way guys bbb is the best example I could give to people that think that everyone in the US is mean to foreigners.... there is people like bbb who is super nice to us and is really interested in helping! Nice to see you around here dear bbb!

Rainisita: I don't quite remember step 1 price but I think it is higher than that. Once you apply on line you will have a form to print with your data and if you are still a medical student (meaning you don't have your medical diploma yet... you are considered a med student by ECFMG if you don't have your diploma even if you are finished, they obviously have not gone to Mexico!!! ) you will have to get a picture that fits the space for it and take that form to your medical school. They will glue the picture, stamp it and fill out some info and sign it. They will give it back to you so you can send it to ECFMG. Once they get it you will be approved and you will receive notification via e-mail and then you will get your ECFMG no. and will be able to enter oasis and IWA. In about 2 weeks you will get your scheduling permit which you can access through IWA and be able to print it because you will need to take it with you on your exam day.

You can go to the prometric website and schedule your exam as soon as you get the email telling that you are good to go, they will give you a special number that you will have to type at prometric in order to be allowed to schedule your exam. Best of lucks and let us know if you have any other questions, welcome to our humble forum!

Damian: Yes it is almost here! As shocking as you guys might find it I am not counting the days! I stopped doing that about 10 days ago when I found out that February had 29 days this year and felt really depressed because I was not counting on that day!! I know it sounds stupid though! So I stopped counting and I just knew this monday that I only had 3 more weeks to go and I just repeated to myself like a mantra: "3 more weeks" and tomorrow I will do the same "3 more weeks to M day!".

Today is an exciting day actually because at 9 pm ET is the ROL deadline so no more changes to the ROL which makes it quite exciting because you kind of know that your destiny is sealed already and is just a matter of time to know the results. I am quite a steady person though and I submitted my list a couple of days after my last IV and I did not change it ever since I am just nervous that I might have made a mistake with the numbers or that I did not submit it well (although I have checked it quite a lot for mistakes.... is my OCD I guess!). Oh well see yoou guys soon! On to my step 3 bank rolling eyes

Hello guys, I'm not new in this forum but I have been following your posts, which I think are pretty much helpful. I want to congratulate all of you for persuing your dreams which you will achieve very soon. I fortunatly pre-matched at my number one choice and I'm so happy about this. I prematched in a Internal Medicine program and I'm very thankful to GOD for giving me this opportunity, also my parents and myself (It sounds as a miss universe contest speech haha). Well, now I'm in trouble regarding the Statment of Need we need to get in Mexico City. I've seen the format but there is a part wich says: "Nombre y dirección de la cede receptora extranjera". Does this mean we have to give the ECFMG name and address or the hospital name and address where we are going to have our training? I will be very thankful if you clrear this doubt. Thanks and good luck to you good people. smiling face

  #3731

I see you are probably getting a J visa. "Institucion receptora" should be the program you are going to do your residency on. GL! and congrats on your pre-match! Hope you have a blast during residency!

KARIME in response to your PM:

I was a 4th grade student when i presented the step 1 (I’m in a 7 year school) (now im in fifth grade)

studied for 11 months (6 months effective 7 hours a day) (5 month ineffective because i was attending my school stuff 0-2 hours a day)

Anatomy: Rapid review + 2004 kaplan lecture notes
Neuroanatomy: Road map + 2004 kaplan lecture notes
Biochemistry: Rapid review + 2004 kaplan lecture notes
Physiology: BRS

Kaplan Q-bankscore: NA
NBME: NA
USMLE CD NA
Kaplan diagnostic: NA
Kaplan full length: NA
Kaplan Q Book: 75% (I didn’t answer the patho questions) 3 weeks before the exam
robbins review of pathology: 82% (I only did the final review and assessment in page 391) 2 weeks before the exam
UW: cumulative performance = 72, percentile = 80 (I only did 25% of the questions, I did it Random and timed, I only read the explanation of the wrong ones) one week before the exam

test date: february 27, 2007
Score report in ECFMG OASIS: march 21

Step 1 score: 247/99

so if you have further questions dont hesitate to ask :P thats what i did but i really believe i got lucky, the day of the test i arrived late :P (as i always do) and because some computer problems i started the test at 11:30 could you imagine i was very anxious well... my advice would be:

graduate doctor and since then they have made my life a living hell......

But it does not matter at the end of the day,G has his own plans and I guess I am the only doctor ( mexican) at that to go thorugh the tecnical school
and because Doctors have made their lifes bad they are taking it out on me

So please be nice to the technicians in the future on of them maybe a real doctor trying to make money to retake the USMLE exams

Hey spitmetal u rock dear!!! That's amazing it's great that you shared your study plan!! Congrats on that amazing score... I can tell you right now that you will be a double 99er because if you were able to pull that off in step 1 you will get another one for sure in step 2 just keep it up! When are you planning to take step 2 by the way?

Hey Silatk! that has been the tough part for me... I'm in San Diego now, I can't go to Tj because I am in the middle of my immigration process... so maybe that makes it far more difficult!! Plus more than 80% of my friends, maybe 90% are away doing their residencies.... so yes It's been tough... there are so many changes going on in my life I can't even start telling you all of them!! I still have a couple of friends that are really nice to me and are studying for the USMLE's so we keep each other's company and also I've been seeing my best friends from Junior high and highschool that I have lost contact with because of distance or time issues so that has been great!!! Bottomline is I really can't complain and I've been going out often but I miss my Tj sooo!! Tequila tasted much better there!! Seriously!! hahaha oh well!! I keep telling myself that someday I will be thankful that I decided to do this and be strong through the whole process.

This brings me to you Sayulita... be strong dear... sometimes life is tough but remember: what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger!! and I'm sure everything happens for a reason. By the way!! we are grown ups now so don't let yourself down by a bunch of immature people that are ganging up on you just because they are too jealous of you!!! what are they 14???!!! I really don't get their attitude... oh well just ignore them!!

So yes, thi is by far the toughest period of my life so far... I feel as if there are too many pressures for one little person such as myself... but I try to remain positive and stay strong because I know good things come to those who wait and you guys should be sure of that too.

Big hug to all of you! This week is tough, I am needing a night out everynight!! poor me!! I will have to drink my liver out until monday hahahaha!! wink see ya later!! Remember me in your prays as I remember you in mine!

Hey spit: Let me tackle them one by one:

1.- Next week is match week and on monday at 12 pm ET they post on the NRMP website the "did I match? "information, so at that point you would only know if you match or not. The next 2 days are dedicated to scramble, so unmatched applicants can try to get the unfilled positions. Thursday March 20th is this year's match day. This day at 1 pm ET IMG's can see their "where did I match" info at the NRMP website. AMG's have a "match ceremony" at their schools at 12 pm ET (one hour earlier) and that is how this game works.

2.- Yes it is complicated but I hope everything turns out well after all.

3.- I don't know about your school but I did not had to wait to start my medical diploma paperwork. I remember finishing my community service the last day of July and that day I worked my ass of to get my "carta de liberación" and from there on you gotta work!! hahaha. I got an appointment for my "toma de protesta" for August 5 and I had everything ready before that date... hice circo maroma y teatro!!! hahaha but from August 5 my paperwork was ready at the rectoria and they only had to work on it. I went to my school and called almost everyday... I talked to everyone who is anyone at my school so that they accelerated my medical diploma.... I did several letters so that they gave me my diploma w/o cedula as a "prestamo" while the cedula was cooking. Finally my diploma was ready on September 19!! I did my whole paperwork for the ECFMG certification and I was certified on November 14. So yes they will always tell you that it is a lenghthy process (at my school it takes up to 2 years!!) and they will tell you also that there is no way in hell that you could get it in less than 6 months.... but believe me! it is possible! Anyways, you still have sometime to go until then so don't worry about it.... start worrying during your community service.

I don't quite remember if you had anymore q's.... oh well, let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Hey Gomez and Karime! Thank you soo much guys... Waiting is so tough sometimes but I think I've been hanging quite gracefully hahaha oh well see ya later!
