Hello guys it has been a long time since the last time I posted. I had to go back to work for a couple months in order to save money to apply for CK and CS, but I´m back and ready to ace both tests.
I have a question regarding the LORS and other papers needed to apply to the match.
Right now I´m in Mexico (Super Jalisco drinking Tequila) and I would like to go to the University and get all the paperwork that I´m going to need to apply.
Does anybody know what I´m going to need? or What do I need to get since I´m here.

From your medical school you will need to get this:

Medical school transcript which is basically a cardex, if you already have one in spanish you can just take it to the translator but if your school is kind enough to do it in English for you I think it is much better. Also try to include total hours for each subject because Texas requires that and it is better to have more than little right?

Also you will need your MSPE (Medical School Performance Evaluation) you can get the guidelines at aamc.org I think. The MSPE is what was called dean's letter before.

And also try to get your medical shool diploma ASAP if you still don't have it and get ECFMG certied also.

Everything else is done w/o the help of your med school. LOR'S i recommend to get them with US doctors, are far more valuable.

You will also need to do a personal statement and get some other things but at least that's what you need from med school. If you have any other questions please let us know. Good luck with your ck and cs!

see ya soon!

Hello Glo, congratulations for your test!!!
So then we need a Medical School Performance Evaluation from our university?, I was looking at that aamc.org website but the only thing that I found is that it's like a correlation between the total GPA and the MCAT scores and other things, but well I don't have those because I studied in Mexico, so I don't know exactly what information do they need to make that correlation sad, in what place of that website can I find that information? . Thank you very much for your time. grin

Hi everyone...
Just new to this forum... It's cool we have a mexican blog hehehe..
Well, I'm from Chihuahua State, just graduated to year ago and I've planning to take the step 1 since I finished my social service (August 07), I applied for examination, but I did not take it... And now I'm in a big dilemma.. I got into a surgery residency program in Mexico, I passed the ENARM!!!... I dont know what to do.. It would be easier if I just flunked it! ...I just reactivated my application code and need to send papers,, I need some advices... What WOULD YOU DO?!!!!!/// thanks in advance...

  #3638

It is totally up to you friend!! I have a couple of friends in the exact same dilemma!! And I will tell you what I told my friends: Do what your heart tells you, if surgery is what you want and you can be happy doing residency in Mexico go for it!! Everybody is different and it depends on what you like and on your future plans, your life would be different depending on what you do. How do you see yourself in 10 years? Some of us don't see ourselves doing residency in Mexico (take me for example) and this is the main reason we are trying the american dream. But, if you can feel happy and fulfilled in Mexico go for it!! Also, if you really want to try the steps I will tell you again what I told my friends: there is always another ENARM... you can do it again and if you passed it once you will pass it again and even with a better score if you studied for the steps... just think about it and follow your heart but think fast because everybody is already on the move for a residency spot, all my friends are already in Mexico city. Good luck and keep us posted!nod

Thank you for the information Glo, I have another question, do we have to pass all the steps in order to get that Medical School Performance Evaluation?, or can I ask for it even if I only have taken the step 1?
Ohhh, and by the way what happened with the interview for the UT Houston?
Thanks in advance. Good luck!!!

Dear tochtli: You can ask for the MSPE even before you take any steps because it has nothing to do with the steps. It is what it's called: a performance evaluation from your medical school. My MSPE includes as part of my performance in the basic and clinical science part that I passed all the steps but that was just info added so that it looks cooler jajaja but in no way necessary. So yes, you can ask your school to start doing it as long as you finished medical school and the intership which would be the translation of the core clinical clerkships in the US. Let me know if I can help you some more.

About UT, thanks for asking! I'm leaving San Diego this sunday because my pre-IV dinner is on monday night and my interview will be held on tuesday. Please pray for me!

Can some body post an example of the MSPE, because I`m having a lot of problems getting my medical school to do it for me. I studied in Universidad Autonoma de Aguascalientes, and they say that the only thing they can do is one of those "constancias de estudios" but I don`t think that`s going to be enough.
I have the template from ECFMG web page.
Are yours something like that one?

  #3644

Glo,
Good luck and tranquila!! Just dont forget to get all the info about the program and any research there.

Hekmac,

Well don't mean to speak on behalf of someone but chema, the founder of this post was a R1 in surgery. So is up to you what you want. You need to score high on the test and to have better odds a green card or citizenship or J-1 visa. Other than that it is a little difficult to enter surgery in the US as a foreign graduate. Yes some have enter but it depends on the school and your attitude. there is info as to which schools have giving spots in surgery to foreign graduates.

Good luck to all!!!!!
