Hey drawen thanks! But is nothing like that...once you are in this game you notice that scores are not everything and I try to remember myself all the time that I might go unmatched as so many more outstanding applicants. It is the risk of this game. But I also try to remain positive and we should all stay that way. This is very tough I never imagine it was this tough! I thought the exams were the only problem but now I notice the exams were nothing but the beginning of your problems jajaja!!! And this is just starting! I talked to a friend of mine the other day, she is still doing the social service and she told me: "Oh I wish so bad to have your life right now!" and I told her: "be careful what you wish for! sometimes I wish I'd be in med school again!" jajaja Right now I feel so weird because I'm alone really! I have my medical diploma with me and what comes from now on is only what I look for myself, you don't have the protection of your medical school anymore! But I guess all medical graduates feel like this... my friends that are doing the nacional are also feeling like this... oh well, let's hope we all match this year!! Well I've rambled a whole lot!! Sorry for rambling here God bless and I hope everyones dreams turn into a reality!! Bye

I've got news for you GLO...it doesnt get any easier once you get into the residency...then u'll say "the interview and aplications was just the real beggining of this"...and so forth...there's always something more complicated ahead...thats part of the reason we are in this...the challenge.. ....the exams, the application, interviews, all look like child's play once you get thrown in the 'battlefield'......dont get me wrong...is the most rewarding feeling. I couldnt be happier here...but ull see.....you gotta bring your 'A' game every single day...the other residents wont let me lie.. for all of u guys in this long journey.....just face on thing at a time..otherwise is painful and very slow...attack your immediate problem and then move on to the next issue......things will eventually fall into place... EVERYTHING IS IMPORTANT; what changes is our perspective...

Hey noxar! Thanks for the advice! I totally understand your point and that is exactly my thought because everytime you are in the middle of something you think it is the most difficult thing and after finishing it and going to the next one your find out that it was nothing compared to what you are living right now and so forth. I am totally conscious that residency is nothing compared with the match process but I also think that if I start worrying about it I might feel overwhelmed so I think its better to take it one step at a time. And I also bet that if you talk to an attending he is going to tell you that residency is nothing compared with "real life" while you think that life will be better after you finish residency and so on so I think this is just a part of life and that is why we should enjoy every moment to the fullest because every life period will bring its challenges and own problems. I wish you the best at your residency I bet you are doing great! And if you feel down at some point don't ever forget all that you have gone through to get there because being in residency is a big accomplishment! God bless you and I hope we get to see more of you! Take care!

I am getting a little anxious, stressed out.... worried. I have only so far gotten 1 interview I don't know if it is because I am not ECFMG certified or haven't applied to enough Programs? This is my situation guys what do you think I should do??? I passed step 1 the second time (78), the first time I took it was in Mx and I had not studied AT ALL for it. It was a shock to me when I took it, I knew I was going to flunk it and I did of course. I had no intentions of really applied for a residency here in the US I was studying really hard for the MEXICAN boards on which I did well and got accepted at the ABC hospital in Mexico city for Anesthesiology.(this was in 2004) When I decided to come and live here in the US, is when I startted studying for step 1 like I should have from the beginning. I took step 2 ck and got (85) first time, and CS pass first time I have USCE here, I am a certified respiratory therapist and my last job was a critical care RT. DO I HAVE ANY HOPE??? I am pretty desperate...

Thank you very much egomez... I am not working right now, I used to work at a hospital in Ca as an RT but recently moved and quit that job. I might start working again, or even look for an externship/observership.. don't know yet, I think taking step 3 would help me a lot if I don't match this year. Therefore, my need to know how you studied.

I applied around the end of Oct. I was waiting and waiting for the ECFMG certificate, it has been already about 10 weeks since ECFMG received the docs from my school and I still don't have the certificate yet. That is the reason why I applied so late

Drawen, I honestly think you have a good opportunity..., and I think that number of programs is ok..., what I would consider is applying to another specialty as a back up..., maybe peds or family practice..., just in case..., just to get in and then jump to your first choice specialty... I think you are going to get more ivs..., lets be patient and keep the faith... For step 3 I basicallly studied 3 1/2 months part time and then almost a month full time, used kaplan ck notes, fa for step 3, step 3 videos, uw for mcqs and ccs, qbank, usmle steps 123 for ccs and some blocks from qbook. Ck notes are good for base knowledge, fa it´s not that important, videos are helpful for answering the test, UW it´s very good for both mcqs and ccs, qbank it´s god for time managment, steps123 it´s very good for ccs, qbook its ok. A must are: ck notes and uw. Hope it helps Lets be positive and have faith, things will be ok for us

CONGRATULATIONS enrique!, it feels so good when you are completely done with the steps, isn't it? drawen: do you need visa or have GC?, anyways, I've known people that match with only 1 interview, so at least you do have this chance, but I believe you still have time to receive more interview invitations. I think you still can get some even in December. You can apply to some more programs of IM, but of lower competitiveness than the ones you've applied (you know, being not so picky, but it's completely up to you) but if you want to, that has to be done as soon as possible. I do not recommend you to apply to other residencies that can be easier to get (FP, peds), it's more problematic at the end of the day if you are thinking to switch programs afterwards. DON'T. I hope this helps. take care

Thanks Chema! , it feels great indeed!!!, got your email thanks a lot... will reply today... Drawen, I suggested to apply to some specialties as a back up, because personally I would prefered to match in one of those back up specialties instead of not macthing at all..., that way I´m practicing in the US, gaining experience, earning some bucks and I think it would be easier to get your prefered specialty on the next match with the background of 1 year of residency in the US. Now, I don´t know how easy it would be to make this change of specialty, I know people who have done this but I don´t know how easy or difficult is to do this. Another point is that this is not the ideal but I would think is better than staying 1 more year out of the game. Now, Chema is at the other side of the glass, I´m sure he has a better perspective and depper understanding on this issue, so maybe my opninion is coming out of mere ignorance so do take it with reserve.
