Thanks Sayulita, It's nice you made us remember that there is a "Dia del Medico"...congrats to you too! Ok- If any of the members haven't seen my previous post I was and still am having trouble with verification of credentials. I contacted ECFMG which told me that my medical school sent transcritpt and didn't verify my medical diploma so they did a resend of this ( DIPLOMA) to be verified. It took almost 5 months to get my transcript. I will be going to MX in december, I guess I will be paying a visit to "Administracion escolar" hopefully this will speed up the process. Hi Dr. Arcienga- it's been a while nice to see you're back. It must be cold now in the windy city! best confe

I'm very sorry to hear that confe.... now I apprecitate my school even more! My school is very aknowledged in all this process, they do this all the time I guess being in the "border" helps. They received my paperwork from ECFMG last friday afternoon and they sent them yesterday....secretary told me all they did and it is exactly what it is asked, plus my transcript was ready before my letter even came in and is done in English!! Thanks to them I will be certified in some weeks if everything runs smoothly and is approved back at ECFMG!! I love Julia!! (main secretary of my school) and I love my university!! Viva la UABC!! Hey Gomez changing subjects how has this week treated you? It has been terrible for me no IV's and 2 rejects jajaja I was able to schedule all my IV's in order of interest and mostly by geographical localization. Hope you've had a better week than me! God bless everyone see you soon!

Hi everybody This is my first time here in the Mexican forum, I’m glad we can help us each other in this difficult process. I’m going to start telling you all a little bit about myself. 32 years old, I was born in Tijuana, Mexico; I lived for 18 years in Ensenada. I did medical school at the UANL and finished Internal Medicine (also in Monterrey) at the Christus Muguerza Alta Especialidad. At this moment I’m living in McAllen as a permanent resident. I took the step 1 in September and scored 94/225. I’m going to take the CK on December and the CS on March and planning to apply to IM for the 2009 match. For people who are studying for the step 1 here is my advice: 1. Everybody is smart enough to get a good score; the most important thing is how hard you study. The most you read the better your score would be. Albert Einstein said “ for success, 1% intelligence, 99% work”. 2. ! Timing is very important! Do a good and realistic study schedule and follow it. Take some time off between subjects so you can clear your mind. Sleep well, remember you memory get consolidated during sleep. 3. Study material: (Don’t just read it, learn it) a. Kaplan Lecture Notes (twice) b. Goljan Pathology review c. Goljan audio (specially if you are not going to take any course) d. First Aid 4. You must do the USMLE world Qbank a. Start doing it in the tutorial mode b. Don’t get frustrated if you score low, this is a very difficult qbank, you going to start doing better as you keep studying c. It is very important to practice in the timing mode so you can see if you are able to keep a good pace, if not, keep practicing. Good luck!

Hey Alan! Welcome! Viva Tijuana! I was unfortunally not born here but my heart is deffinitely in Tj!! Hope you get a great score on your ck, be sure to do USMLE world again and also keep us posted. This week is killing me really... I got no IV's and 2 rejections, in top of it all I fell terribly while going downstairs and my body is hurting badly... I'm trying hard to study for step 3 but I haven't been able to study as hard as before... I feel that I'm getting tired of studying...after all I've been studying for a year now!! ...only good news is that my certification is running smoothly. Hey Gomez did you have a better week than mine? I sure hope so! Only thing that keeps me going is my birthday next week I'll have tons of margaritas and forget about the world!! jajaja Allright people have a great weekend!!

Hey! GLO I know what you are talking about, I'm having the same feelings, I studied so hard for the step one and now I just can't keep the same pace. I really think you don't have nothing to worry about, you have everything a program could look for: great scores, a lot of clinical experience, everything going on time. Just be patient, you will see you are going to get what you want. Try to decrease your anxiety, exercise works for me. I,m glad you are doing better. Alan

Hi all, My name is Wendy and I am graduate from BUAP. I also have applied to different programs (80 in total) for the match this year. I started applying pretty late and so far have gotten a few rejects. I live in CA with my husband (no children yet), he is the most supportive person you can imagine. Since it is almost hell getting the CA letter (Iam still waiting for it) had to fill another L5 form my husband encourage me to apply anywhere in the country. I just don't know if we should move though, he just found a very good job here in LA. Well, it is very nice meeting you all. Keep up the good thread!

Hey borrelia! Don't worry about it just start studying hard for ck and try to score above 90. Also look for USCE you said you were thinking about harvard right? go for it! Even with high 80's you can get great IV's if you have something that caughts the eye like USCE and nice US MD's LOR's. good luck and keep us posted, if you have any questions about ck please let us know. I especially and highly recommend doing USMLE WORLD bank instead of kaplan's it is incredibly awesome. And for study material get kaplan's books, first aid and if you want to see the videos also go for it. Hey tochtli thank you so much for the good wishes! I am starting to get really stressed out my first couple of Iv's are coming in 2 weeks and I don't know... I guess you are never ready for something that you know your future depends on, bue we'll see! Hey drawen dear try to send the new L5 form ASAP because otherwise you might not get PTAL in time for the match. I wish you the best of lucks with that difficult letter!

Thank you for all the great advise GLO MD. I am still working on the L5 form, I have friends in Puebla that are going to go to the University in person and do that for me ASAP. I wish I had some interviews coming up as you do, but so far I have gotten just rejects.... GOOD LUCK on your interviews! Hey borrelia... that is a great score! I know some people that got lower scores and already have gotten a few interviews in good programs. I agree with GLO MED, do the USMLE WORLD bank, I did it and got a much much better score than step 1. Confe... what year did you graduate from the BUAP?

Hi new people !!! and everybody!!!
......Let me introduce myself (4 the newbies): A. Karime Cuevas O., 24 years, I'm from Morelos, Cuernavaca (UAEM), I do not have my medical diploma yet, doing my social service, and studying for Step 1. I hope taking it at the end of april 2008....ok.... I had just finished anatomy.....I felt it a little bit easier than statistics, honestly I'm bad in math, next, I'll read physiology.....what do you think....? Is that an adeccuate order?.....I know The most important think is to study, no matter what, but, after finishing physio, I think the next subjetc will be pharma, & then micro&immuno, then bioch, and then patho......After every reading.....I pass to First Aid, and then the Q bank....I've read most people let the Questions at the end, but I think is not a good idea.......but, I don't know, maybe it is........ And, I have not time to see the DVDs.....maybe in my second reading....Oh boy....the time is gold!!!! Congrats Borrelia, you did it!!!! in your first attempt that is also very important....Keep going!! COnfe, I'm sorry about your situation, I hope my Facultad won't give me the same problems. GLO, eGomez, Good luck!!! The match process have not finished..... And................................that's all See you then!!!

Hi Wendy! Nice to see you in the forum- I'm a old IMG ( that's what we're called jaja) I finished med school in 1995 followed by internship and SS. I was among the 1st "group piloto" of the Hospital General and received my Medical Diploma in 1998. So yes it been a long time and studying for step 1 but I have hope. Hey, how did you get your diploma verified from the BUAP? ECFMG said they only sent my transcript ... so I'm almost semiverfied (if that's a word) and trying to sort out how to get this done. Glo - Good luck on IV's!, Borrelia , I wish I had that score ...great job. Happy Halloween "dia de Muertos" confe

Hey glo, I am not sure yet about the program but i was thinking on baylor, I did a few clinical rotations there, but it seems like a pretty competitive program, maybe UT.... Hi Confe, Well, getting the ECFMG certificate has been a pain in the rear end! I am still waiting for it.. let me tell you what happened: Almost 1 and a half years ago, ECFMG sent the Form 327A to the BUAP (this is a form where ECFMG asks the university if you were in any kind of trouble at school, if you were ever under investigation.. etc, and ask for them to send a copy of your transcript. Along with this documents they include the copy of your medical diploma in order for them to verify that indeed it is a "true" copy). I was so worried about studying for the steps that I didn't really pay too much attention to it.. I kept thinking-oh, they are going to get it done, I will worry about it later. Well, I wished I had worried about it sooner because when I went to Puebla to get BUAP send the documents to ECFMG it was HELL to get the university to do this for me. From the office of "Administracion Escolar" to the Facultad, and finally to the Office of the "General Lawyer" .It is very frustrating when you think you want to put the name of your University in high standards and they make it more difficult for you than it should be. Anyways, I had to go to the Office of the General Lawyer at the Carolino and personally explain the situation to them. They gave me a SEALED envelope that I finally sent by FedEX to ECFMG. Since these documents weren't translated ECFMG had to send them to be tranlated (205 dollars).. to make the long story short, instead of taking ECFMG 6 weeks to verify my documents it's going to take them 12! and as we speak I am already late for the match of this year. Check in OASIS what is the status of your 327A form. Borrelia-- When I studied for step2 CK, I watched the videos, I think they were helpful. What I think is more helpful is the USMLE WORLD bank, and of course checking by taking the NBME to see how you are doing and where your weakest areas are. Everybody I know say that usmleworld is tougher than the kaplan qbank, so I recommend going with the hard one. It is nice to meet all of you guys!! Finally some support!!
