Hello I'm mexican too, I passed my step 1 with 203/83, and I've been a little sad because I've seen that the cutoffs to start a residency are very high (90,95,99), I don't know if I should take the next steps or no. I'm living in the U.S, with green card. I don't know what to do. I want to do pathology, do you think I have any chances? I'm very happy to see more mexican doctors here.

Hi there tochtli You have already an advantage over many, you are a resident,so no visas problems with you. -means more oportunities- Any area that you want is there for you,but remmember that national (american graduates are first ) makes sense uh ?! Now they test you to see if you are at the same standard. If you can get into the field and study here in the US and in the mind set as the rest of the people, then there is better chance. The interviews are very important yes the grade matters but if they see that you can learn and bring somethning good to the working team then MAYBE you'll get in Good luck to you keep a positive attitude

Hi all, I posted information regarding ecfmg verification of transcript and diploma for my Medical School (BUAP). I thought all had been done but come to find out that the BUAP didn't send my diploma or a translation of my transcript. So ECFMG has sent an additional request I am so frustrated, has anyone had a similar experience? Please share - Thanks and all the best confe

Thank you for your advice Sayulita, I think I'll continue studying for step 2. I've heard that the step 2 is more difficult than the step 1, Is that true?, I'll try to do the best I can . Confe, I never heard something like that, well I didn't have any problems with the verification of the transcript with my school (UNAM), I'm not sure maybe you should call to your school and try to find out what is going on, or maybe you can go there, well I don't know if you're in the U.S or in puebla...maybe somebody of your family can go to the university and ask.

Hi Tochtli It is nice to see that the UNAM has their act together. The BUAP is the second oldest Medical school in Mexico although I truly love my alma mater they have been very slow to respond. On a positive note they did send my transcript but not translated, I honestly think they do not provide this service. ECFMG states that you can't sent them directly any information it has to come from your school. Can other share thier experience. thanks confe

Dear confe...the copy of your medical diploma along with your certified translation should have been sent from the very beginning by you!!! I don't know why you think that your med school is in charge of that because it is not...I'm in the middle of my process and what I did first was sending a copy of my medical school diploma and a certifed translation along with 2 forms 365 and one 364 (I might be confused with numbers because I did it a month ago but everything is in ECFMG website).... after ECFMG gets this docs FROM THE APPLICANT... they will look at them and after a while they send a especial form, one of the copies of your medical diploma to your med school so that your med school completes the form, signs and stamps the copy of your med school diploma and sends a official transcript all this things are sent back to ECFMG who checks them again and if everything is in order you get certified...all this process is suppose to take 6-8 weeks. So I really don't understand why you are expecting your med school to send those...they haven't send them because it is not their work to do so...but what I don't understand is how you say that your credential verification is already on its way if you did not send your diploma from the very beginning...I might not understand you or I might be confused....well Dear Tochtli...remember "No hay peor lucha que la que no se hace" so don't loose the faith and keep on going!! I have friends that have got a 75!! in S1 but they recovered and got high 90's in ck and now they are doing residency or matching and getting great calls...so never loose faith and keep on going...step 1 is really tough if you study hard you can pimp your creds by a high 90 in ck jajajaja pimp your creds!!! I just came up with it and I'm laughing myself jajaja oh well dear good luck and keep posting!! By the way your cutoffs mentioned are way to high.... I've seen a whole lot of program requirements and most of them even the coolest program ever have a cutoff of 90 in both steps or 230 in 3 digit score... i've only seen like one program (i'm not kidding) that had 95 as their cutoff...so don't feel that discouraged and keep on going Good to see everyone!! where's my dear Gomez!! I bet he is so happy done with all his steps!!! OH MY!! I was just finishing this and I got an IV from cleveland clinic Florida!!! I'm so happy!! God bless everybody see you soon!!

Dear Glo Md- thanks for your quick reponse, I have sent my medical diploma and trancript tp ECFMG and filled out the forms that you mentioned. I sorry if I did not state this correctly but the medical school had only verfied my transcript and not my diploma ( as per a ECFMG representative). The did not provided and english translation but I did. I will be calling ECFMG once again to see what the real deal they told me they will be charging me some where around $200 to get this translated. Anyway trying to get this clear while studying for step one ... Congrats on your interview and best of luck. Tochtli- never look back just look forward

Hi Confe, My university sent my transcript to ECFMG but it wasn't translated, so the ECFMG made the translation and I had to pay $205 dls for it, I think you can't send personally the translation of the transcript to ECFMG, because they send it to a special place to be translated. You can pay in the ECFMG website. Dear Glo MD, thank you for your advice, well I'll try to do all I can, I hope at least I can get a 90, but I'm not sure. Thank you very much

Hi guys! wow I see that the forum grows more and more each time I log in Nice ! probably a lot of you don't know me and others that does.. doesn't even remember me LOL So, just to introduce myself and refresh your minds too, let me introduce once more: I'm Susie, 27yo, married w/o children. Live @ chicago with green card since 2 years ago and just about to present my S1 on december (probably january whatever my screening score is by that time) btw I'm from UAG (I was born in Guadalajara) I took Kaplan live lectures last month and currently I'm reviewing all the material plus some question.. I also want to buy usmle world and start with question on the site as soon as posible.. (probably next week) and I'm having a small study group from other kaplan students that I meet at the lectures here @ chicago. I'm really nervous about my S1 score.. I really want to get a residency on the chicago area because my marriage and well.. because I live here ! LOL ... my target is Family Medicine but because I want to return to mexico in some point of my future... I'm kind of undecide about it and maybe I could end up with OB&Gyn but I don't know... lots of malpratice insurance $$$ and poor free time to be with my family... gosh !! let's see what happens... I truly wish u luck to all of you that are beginning the journey just like me and congratulations to those who already have becoming their dreams come true.
Susie

Check if you need a state licence first. Odds that you will. Go to a hospital and look for some of the positions that you might qualify for. Also try the mental health area. Check for jobs in the county offices(human resources). Good Luck!!

Yeah. You can ask anyone at a clinic to see if you need a licence for that. Tey will tell you. As a phlebotomist you usually do. is basic and easy but you have to get a certificate from a school and that is expensive. Chech the mental health area.

egomez: sure. I'll be glad to. Susie: it's always nice to hear of you. don't worry, you'll get what you want, either FM or OB. it's just a matter of time.
