I guess its been a long time since I posted about myself and there is new users around. I am currently doing my second year of pediatrics in Texas. I graduated from UAG about 3 years ago. Matched in 2006. I just recently passed the step3 so I can finish my residency program.

Someone mention about the ENARM.... the USMLE's are way much more difficult and complex, but the ENARM is not a fair test. Its the kind of test that does not matter how much you know or how much you study, it depends how many people have paid for the test in advance. So if you dont get a residency spot do not fell bad about yourself.... But my prediction is that you will pass the ENARM, with very good score. Well I passed it twice sticking out tongue

I will be happy to help anybody in their match experience or the steps road... just be patient, when you are a resident free time is a luxury!

Saludos y Arriba las Chivas!

Hi Karime and everyone else. No, I haven't paid for the exam and I am not planning to do it until I feel close to be ready. I prefer to accept a post-doc position offer than obtain a no-ace mark, or probably I will accept the "dark side" and join a pharmaceutical company...you never know where your future is. My study is going slow but constant. Right now I am presenting in a congress and touring around Japan and Corea and after this I come back and have another congress so I will return to Neuroanatomy around middle of September.
Oh the ENARM, you shouldn't worry about it GLO MD but more for a fair competition but even that I knew some ex-classmates that they bought it and did not pass...imaging how intelligent they were (jajaja).
Good luck everyone

Hello to everyone! I feel lucky having found this forum, truly guys, you can feel the good vibe, all are just great kind people.
Karime, I´m from Chihuahua I took your advice and will go on my own for Step 1,
also I´m doing ENARM this Sept 8th... Good luck GloMD!, I think you are going to do a great exam, I´m reading this CTO minimanual, what do you think? Hey Torontonian loved the "dark force" thing, LO.
See you all fellows, may the force be w you all!D

  #3236

Hi sergio degante!!! Yes this was a great finding for me too. Everybody has been really nice and supportive, I don't fill alone in this process anymore.
Thank you for the good wishes, I wish you the best also!!! Do you wish to apply to a residency in Mexico or are you doing it for another reasons like me? What is the CTO manual by the way??? rolling eyes I have no clue.... I've seen the past 2 ENARMS and that is basically my studying method jajaja and I found that those questions are terribly designed... it is just unfair but we'll see how it goes, are you doing it in chihuahua? Hope we hear more from you.

HI YOU ALL. A PERSONAL STATEMENT IS ONLY ONE PAGE?

WHAT DO I HAVE TO WRITE IN IT?

I WILL APPRECIETE YOUR ADVICE IN THIS SUBJECT,WHAT ARE THE IMPORTANT THINGS DO I HAVE TO PUT IN IT,ABOUT MY LIFE,MY CAREER?

THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE IN ADVANCE.

ANY ONE HERE KNOWS HOSPITALS IN TEXAS WHERE TO DO OBSERVERSHIP,SPECIFIC IN SAN ANTONIO TX.?

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU

  #3239

Flores md: A ps has to be one page long. 3 paragraphs: first paragraph you have to tell with a story why you decided to do the speciality that you decided for. Par 2 has to tell also with a story and not with adjetives why you are good at it. Par 3 is a summary in which you can talk about your future goals, and you can say with words what you talked about in the first 2 paragraphs. Start with a boom and finish with a boom. That is it. GL and let us know if you need any more help.
I don't know much about san antonio but in Houston there are a lot of hospitals that offer observsrships I bet SA has a lot of them too, remember texas is very IMG friendly start searching the programs and emailing. GL

Texas sound very good...

Hi everybody!

Wow.....it's a lot.....the prep material is a universe of info!!!!!!
Let's see what can I do with only 5 hours per day and sundays afternoons rolling eyes

I think that DVDs classes are very necesary only in some subjects llike Behav......what you think?.......Should I see all of them?
Any comments, questions about the S1 prep are welcome! and of course thanks
I've read some mistakes in the forum about study methods........but what do you recommend? Do this, don't do that......I know it's personal, and depends how it fits in you life style......but there're general rules that work in all persons!

Gloria and De Gante and everyone else......Good luck at ENARM!!!
Which specialty did you apply for?
Ok, De Gante let's start do it by your self!!!!

See you guys.....till next time!

Hey karime!! Yeah I know step 1 prep seems overwhelming at the beginning, but you'll see that you will get used to it. I did not see the video DVD's because I attended the live lectures but I did watch path videos because the doctor that gives them is amazing and he could not come to my lectures, I highly recommend path!!! plus he is very cute and a joy to watch!!! nod I've also heard that pharm, biochem, physio and behavioral (especially statistics) are a must and are very good videos. I would deffinitely take time to watch those because those kaplan classes changed my life forever jajaja and I bet the videos will help you a whole deal too. I don't know about the micro but if micro is not you best subject it would deffinitely help you, I was terrible at micro prior to my steps prep and after my live lectures and my solo study I rarely missed the questions. Gl Karim let us know how it goes!
Thanks for the good wishes on the ENARM, all I want is to come out of it with dignity jajajaja I applied for IM but even if I passed I would not get in because I had just received an offer to work at UCSD and will be making very good money plus my CV would look much better, I don't see why do a year of residency in Mexico if I don't match this year since my plans are not in here. But we'll see it is always best to have several doors open that is why I decided to do this exam. See ya guys!!!

GOOD LUCK IN YOUR JOB AT USCD,WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO IN THERE? YOU ARE AN AMERICAN CITIZEN.

THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE,SOME OF YOU KNOW OBSERVERSHIPS IN DALLAS TEXAS

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYBODY

  #3244

Hello Y´All, GloMD I think the way you are doing is the wisest thing to do (I mean to have several options), I applied to IM this is my first time on ENARM, I will do it in chihuahua, yet I want to do the USMLE and work on USA.
My main reason is the money, that is because I have my lil´ sis with JRA and I have realized (by the saddest ways) that here in Our Country it´s really hard to come up and fully support the treatment (even If you are a MD). I really do not want to sound tragic or exagerated...

The CTO manual is the a guide for the Residency in Spain, I´ve heard that years ago people of ENARM based some of their questions on that (just what I´ve heard), anyway, I think it is well resumed and updated, (I don´t know if I can post here some direction where you can download it or I´ll leave you my email if any one is interested I´ll send it to you sergio_de_gante@hotmail.com)

Have 1 Question,do you thik going to USA would represent any kind of advantage when preparing to USMLE?
P.S. Thx Egomez, karime see you around

I HAVE ANOTHER DOUBT, A HOSPITAL TELL ME TO SEND A CV, SHOULD I SEND ALL THE PAPERS OF MY CURRICULUM OR ONLY THE MOST IMPORTANTS? SHOULD I HAVE TO SEND THE CONSTANCY OR RECORDS OF THE CONGRESS OR COURSES I ATTEND?

  #3246

Hi guys,
Floresmd, usually you do not need to send a proof of anything (courses, congressess), but only if they specifically ask for it. Physician is a job which have legal power (same as lawyers, priest, or notary public) so they expect you DO NOT lie.

  #3247

Sergio I am very sorry to hear about your sister, I think it is very nice that you are doing this for her and I think you should fight to get what you want because the sky is the limit. Thank you for your nice offer I don't think I have the time or the strenght nor the will to study anything for the ENARM but I would love to take a look at it just for the fun of it so I will surely mail you.
About going to the US what do you mean by that? leaving or working in a medical environment of any kind? because if you do it helps you not with the exams (well it would help you a lot for the cs if you get to see patients) but it will help you in the future when you want to get into residency because you'll need USCE and LOR's which a lot of people don't know or don't think about when preparing for the USMLE's. But I suggest to first take your time and try to get the best score possible on you MLE's and after that get some USCE if you don't have one by now. GL on the ENARM I bet you will do great!!

FloresMD: No I am not a US citizen I am more mexican then the tortillas themselves jajaja but I met some very nice people that are trying to help me and will do so. I got very lucky. Just send your CV, and if they want to meet you later on take all your stuff with you just in case usually they don't ask for it. Remember you CV should be no more then 2 pages.
