Glo, if you don't mind asking, how did you rank in your generation?, where you top 10, where you # 1, or 5?, 13?, I am asking because I never heard about the graph part of your deans letter and I am wondering if someone who is not at the top 10 would he want to do this graph??

4) Rosamed: regarding the MSPE=Dean's letter, I'm from UDG as well. I think the most intelligent and rapid thing to do here is to make it by yourself, and then print it and go with the dean and explain him the situation and he should sign it up for you. That's what I did and worked. One detail, first of all, you could ask him if he will be able to sign you this document in english, in that way, you will save some bucks of the official translation, etc, if he won't, then you have to do it in spanish. Congratulations. Arriba la UDG !!

I was number 1 so it does benefit me, but even if someone is on the first 10 depending on how large the class was you can make some magic to make it sound nicer jajaja For example I put myself as the high honors and then did another category for honors, above average, average and below average, and a friend scored in the honors category with this move...if we hadn't put the high honors category I would've been in the honors category and she would've been in the above average...so you can deffinitely make some moves to play with words. Try that

By the way....Noxar I've heard about getting SSN being an alien but I got into the website and they say that only in very special situations and I don't think I'm among the situations listed...did you do this or do you know somebody that did? Do yo have any idea of how to do this?

I'm getting involved in all this procedures in this july (Reading USMLE and ECFMG Bulletin 2007), which has been kind of month off for me but this is the worst part: I must do many administrative procedures before my social service, I hate it!!!!!!!!!!! it's just a waste on time and money......SO I haven't started my study plan!!!..well
About all this stuff.........I have many questions, just let me read the marks I put on it, but it'll be until my next post.....by now I remember 2 of'em:
1. I understand that once U have decided your eligibility period, you need to let know ECFMG...In my case....I hope taking S1 in jan-mar-------or feb-apr.......2008.....so DO I have to tell them 6 months before my eligibility?, I mean, just right now? or how did you guys anticipate this procedure?
2. DO you need to send papers?.....or just the ones they ask you (filling forms)
3. Deans Letters is only when you plan to get certificated, isn't it?
4. Apart: What " LOL " means.....sorry, I don't know so many slangs!!

I read in the news an article about the new 7 wonders, and said that behind the hole circus, there are so many private interest, just realize that any world organization, sponsored the competition, also mentioned that a swiss magnate was the leader in such idea, even only 2 TV companies in MExico sponsor and promote the votes to the pyramids. Besides.....it said that the tourist system in that place is not enough to endure the big affluence of people that it'll supposed generated.....and instead of incomes we're going to get damage to our cultural heritage......just another point of view.

I THOUGHT ECFMG SERVED AS OUR DEAN AND SO IMG'S DIDN'T HAVE TO DO A DEAN'S LETTER, I KNOW IT MIGHT BE AN EXTRA GOOD THING TO ADD, BUT IS IT ABSOLUTELY NECCESARY????

Karime the way it works is the following:
1.- Since you are still going to do your social service and you still don't have your medical diplomma to US you are still a med student.... so this is what you will have to do to register for any step. Things are easier now...when I did step 1 everything had to be filled out on paper and sent but now you have to fill it out over the internet. Go to ecfmg.org and go to step 1 registration. Fill the entire form. When you fill it out they are going to ask you the period that you wish to have and that is the moment when you say that you want to do your exam i.e. january-march 2008 or whatever...so yes...you can decide about period months in advance...always remember to give it cushion time...so if you are thinking that is more possible to be ready in february take february april because it's more possible that you fill like you need more time then less...believe me.
Once you filled the form and payed via credit card or electronic check...they are going to generate a form for you to print out. It is just one page with some of your data on it and your school has to fill out the rest...it has to be signed by your dean (since you still are considered to be med student) and also signed by you. Once you print it out go to a photo shop and ask for a photo that will fit those dimenssions...reularly a passport photo will fit but take the form with you so that the guy in the place measures it. The photo should be in color and with clear background. You put that photo in the space and your school has to stamp your form with half of a stamp in the photo and half on the paper. Once you have it ready all you have to do is send that page to ecfmg (if you are in mexico I recommend using a courier service to be more sure). And it will take a couple of weeks to be accepted. Once it's accepted you will receive a mail confirming you that your are accepted and they will give you your ecfmg number so that you can get into your oasis and IWA. Once you are going to do do your exam remember to print out your scheduling permit (everything is in internet now), you will find it in IWA, also take your mexican passport and print out your confirmation from prometric. Those are the 3 things you have to take with you.
2.- NO you don't need to send any papers beside this form I told you...all other exams are done exactly the same...once you have step 1 , step2ck and cs ready and finish your social service and get your diplomma you can send it to get certified.
3.- Dean's letter or MSPE as it is called now is only needed when you wish to apply for the match not even to get certified.
4.- LOL means "laugh out loud"

Hi to all again!!, just droping by for a while. For the people asking about the deans letter, I didnt send one and it didnt matter. I tried to do it, but my dean at the UDEM was doing so much trouble about it, that I said the hell with it!! , and applied without it!. Anyway, Im glad it didnt matter because I was on the far end of the list . Study hard people!, and good luck.

gloria...ibe never known anyone getting a ss card this way..and I applied for mine after getting the H1b visa....but the ss office site says something like this:
We issue three types of Social Security cards. All cards show your name and Social Security number.
- The first type of card shows your name and Social Security number and lets you work without restriction. We issue it to:
- U.S. citizens; and
- People lawfully admitted to the United States on a permanent basis.
- The second type of card shows your name and number and notes, “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION.” We issue this type of card to people lawfully admitted to the United States on a temporary basis who have DHS authorization to work.
- The third type of card shows your name and number and notes, “NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT.” We issue it to people from other countries:
- Who are lawfully admitted to the United States without work authorization from DHS, but with a valid nonwork reason for needing a Social Security number; or

Thank you very much Noxar!!! I've been investigating a lot on this issue... I even wrote an email to a lawfirm specialized in immigration in San Diego and a lawyer wrote me back. He told me that I should contact SSA and that as your post says they may issue the third kind of SSN card without the DHS authorization. He told me that before they used to do that all the time and that now they don't do it very often but he told me to give it a try so that's what I will do. Thank you very much for your post you are very kind and I really appreciate it...let's see what I can do...I will let you guys know in case that anybody else has the same problem.

Hi guys things are going better but still are difficult,every day I am learn something new or remember something that I learned before.I am fighting with this rotation the only thing good is that is just one month in the Internship after most of the time will be at floor.
Regarding Deans letter I did not have that so If you dont have dont worry but trying to get a letter of recomendations from USA thats help a lot.
