Arciniega.......hi, long time no see, I remember your cute avatar ...I am glad to see that you are ready to re-start your prep and do step 1, I actually read one your posts in the match support forum, and OMG you asked exactly what I wanted to ask, jejeje, I was also planning to do step 1 in August, s2 in sep or oct, and cs in december to make it for this years 2008 match, what tolito wrote to you gave me hope, but unfortunately it seems that I won't be able to make it to 2008 match.
I am a little angry with me and mostly embarassed , because I remember being in this same exact situation last year, and asking, silatk, spitmetal and chemamr, and others the exact same question in order to make it to 2007 match, and now, I am going to 2009!!!!! About the kaplan live lectures, I agree with Mxshrink, I have a friend who went to the live lectures in Pasadena CA, and she told me that doing the video's is exactly the same thing, and I also would suggest you do them early so that after the course you have time to study by yourself, but not do the course and immediately do the exam. I don't know if you have payed for it already, but if not, remember that you will have to have money for the rest of the exams, ERAS, interviews, the CA letter if you want to apply in CA is almost $1300 dlls now, so if money is not an issue go for it, but if you need to save money, don't spend it in the live course and buy the videos instead, well, at list that is what I think. Good luck!

MSPE (dean's letter) went fine I think Yolanda. It's 4 pages long plus appendix. I just need to take it to the university to get checked and signed. I think I'm going to be on time to send everything to ECFMG at the end of July in order to apply in September. I'm just worried right now about my diplomma because if I don't get it I will not get my ECFMG certificate...I've been sending so many emails to ask if ECFMG certificate is needed for initial application and there are some nice programs I would like to apply that ask for it at the beginning...so that really drives me crazy!!! I could be sending my diplomma in order to get certified since I have my exams ready but I don't have the..... diplomma... ...oh well!!! Let's pray and hope I get it ASAP. I also wanted to apply for the california letter but I need my diplomma for that too do you guys know if it's possible to send what you have to start the paperwork and once I have my diplomma send it afterwards to speed up the process a little bit? I've ask this question so many times and nobody answers it for me.... also I've noticed that they ask for a SSN, is it totally necesary to have one to apply? If someone can answer this question I would be really grateful, because I've tried to call the board and I only get a machine.... Oh one more thing, in 2 days I'm leaving to Houston to get my LOR's and I've heard that waiving them is very important but since I will get them directly from my LOR writters I've heard that a way to do it is by receiving them and sending them as a closed envelope Do you guys have any idea of that? I would love your feedback since I'm almost leaving and I don't know exactly what to do...

I think references letters can be send in a closed envelope with a signature accross the sealing. Reading about your Dean's letter give me a bad opinion about mine. I have read inb this forum that yours are 4 pages long but mine is only one. Where can I find examples of Dean's letters? I would like to be as close as the americans expect.

http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/resources/downl... This is the guideline to follow for an MSPE. If you have any questions please let me know I will be happy to answer them since I've just done mine.

DO all residency programs require a Dean's Letter; I graduated from the U d G and also some of you from this forum so you know how long it takes to get requested documenst from them so I would not even know where to start on asking for a letter from the Dean if I needed, plzz let me know??? How soon before the match do you need to have your documents ready???

Thanks GLO!. Mmm, looks this is gonna be a pain as I do not think my University prepares graphics comparing marks. Probably I could request them the marks for all my generation and prepare the report by myself but I am not sure if they will handle that information to me. How did you do it?

gloria...i dont think i know the exact answer to your question regarding lor's...all i know and remember i that my US lor was sent directly to eras on a clsed envelope....i actually never got to see the letter...but all of my interviewers said it was a powerful one....hope this helps,... one piece of advise for everyone studying for any step.....dont overthink abour your material....ALL of usmle material is perfectly designed to make you ace the test......just pick something and read it!....this "paralysis by analysis" costed me one match year and if you make calculations about how much would you spend in a whole year in food, housing, clothes, partying...etc etc etc etc...those $1300 for kaplan would sound like pocket change....so just dive head first into any material u choose and go for it....i know it's easier said than done....but believe me..i learned the hard way.....START READING NOW..ask later! i dunno where laptop is from but im positive he is not from mexico....his country of origin (love island) is some inside joke i never understood or found amusing/fun...... =P torontonian...my school had no idea about mspe's either but they let me make mine...i did make some graphics and charts...maybe u can try that too....i never used the kaplan qbank....but ive heard many ppl recommend it..the qbook onthe other hand, iused it for s1 and ck and felt that really really helped me i totally recommend q book........UW stands for usmleworld.com...i actually used their qbank on every step and for me, that qbank IS A MUST...so, here u have another opinion to make things worse torontonian.... rosa. u have to have ur documents ready by the time u apply..so that all the programs can download your full application...the earlier, the better

UW is Usmle World torontonian I just starting hearin goljan while I exercise, and I like it a lot, many people from the forum swear by him, they say it is an absolute must, don't know if someone else here has done it, but he is very entertaining and integrates biochem, immuno, micro, pharma and patho very well. I read in the CA web page that they recommend you send the documents even if you don't have everything ready so that they can start with the fingerprints and background police checkup and those things...glo. bYE

Thank you Yolanda and Noxar....I'm drowning in paperwork!!! Oh well!!! I hope everything turns out fine in the end!!! Anyways does anybody know if I need a social security number...I mean is it a must for applying for the california letter?? I've heard that it is but it doesn't make sence to me since many programs that I've seen in california sponsor J visas so...how could they say that they sponsor J visas if a SSN is needed for applying for the california letter and the california letter is needed for applying in any program in california...and also you can only have a SSN if you are a legal resident or a US cityzen and these people DON'T need a J visa.... I don't know if the SSN it's not needed or if this is a complot to deny any entrance to California to non legal residents and do it in a "polite way".... PLEASE HELP!!! =( About question banks I have both opinions...I did kaplan qbank for the step 1 and it was very helpful, I did not know anything about usmle world during my step 1 so I did kaplan qbank and I think it was a must but since I did not do USMLE world for the step 1 I can not compare them but what I do know is that you MUST do a bank...any bank pick one and do it. For step 2ck I COMPLETELY recommend usmle world it is an amazing bank, after doing those questions the real exam turns out easy.... I bet usmle world is really good for step 1 too but I can not speak completely about it since I didn't pick if for my study plan.

Oh ! I almost forgot...Torontonian about the MSPE...my university let me do it...so I put special effort on make it as perfect as I could and completely in compliance with the guidelines that I told you about. All my info was done in 4 pages and then I added an appendix with one graphic in which I compared my overall performance with my other classmates and the second appendix included all the info about my medical school. Try to do it as close as possible to the guidelines since this documents are going to be seen by program directors and you want it to be very understandable and complete for them and if you do it acording to guidelines they are going to trust you and your medical school even more. one graphic is more then enough but if you want to do more go for it...I only did the overall performance with our final scores since I did not have info to do all the other graphs. Good luck and let me know if you have more questions

you can only have a SSN if you are a legal resident or a US cityzen<----- i dont think this is true gloria....u can apply for a ssn being an alien ...u can apply with ur b1/b2 (visa laser) and yous SS card will state that ure not able to work in the us..then when u get a visa,,,u update ur info and get a new card (with the same SSN) that says ure able to work...
