yes, that's so true noxar. I hadn't thought he is still a medical student. Maybe it would be better if you do your step 2cs later on, when you've got more clinical experience/skills. And you could do the TOEFL right now only for getting these rotations.

Spitmetal: Maybe now with these several outlooks, you can answer your question.

Hi everybody

to answer chema's question, and sorry I dont write as often as before but I try to at least come and read the posts and if it is something I can contribute more than other members, I try. Once you get into your residency, you will understand wink

Anyway, it feels good that soon I will be a PGY2, although it is a little scary as well smiling face . I will be in charge of my own team and make sure my interns dont kill the patients wink (just kidding) . I will have a lot more responsabilities, etc , but I am excited, looking forward to it smiling face

To answer the question about chief residents, in my program there are 2 chiefs and they are selected by our Program director , associate program director, our chairman of Internal Medicine and education, our director of clinical and critical care, so basically our faculty. They dont really get paid more (or not much more) but it is very prestigious to be selected to be chief , and your chances in getting a fellowship increase.

have a nice day everybody,

love. Lore

Hello everyone.
I have not post very often but is just I have been too busy. Well, I just took STEP 1 . Honestly I have been sooooo sad, depress and dissapoint with myself. I had to guess a lot Q. So, I did not think I did well. Now, I am taking a little vacations in GDL, and I feel like I have to come back and study again for step 1.
I got a lot Q. about Behavioral sciences ,Pharmacology and BCH. I was very impress because I did not get a lot Q. in Patology . I feel like my exam was too difficult. I did not like this experience. I WAS SOOOOOOO NERVOUS. Maybe next time I will be more calm and prepare. Eventhough I preprare this test for a while my nervousism killed me. I think is very important to be mentally prepare for this and calm down.
Oh, well !!!!
By the way. Chemmar and Medusin and everyone here in GDL from this forum. I am going to be here for couple weeks and it will be nice to see you just to know some tips to goooo through. Well, If you have time.
Well, see you and I am not waiting for the result , I think I am going to study again and take the test in 2 months. I would like to be done as soon is possible with this step and be ready for MATCH 2800 (if this is possible.)

Congratulations Lorena for your first year of residency that is almost done also for Laloblum. And for the new residences this year.

  #2713

Hi Karla, I wish you passed the exam, so, I am also studyin for the step 1, I am near of GDL and I am going to take it in july or agoust, but I am not sure, Where did you do the exam? How long did you study?

  #2714

Hey Karla, everyone feels like that after the test, so i think you should take some days off, relax (very hard indeed, i couldn’t) so when you start studying again you wont burn out.
try to think in what you should do if you fail but also think what you shoul do if you pass, make a realistic schedule of studying (either for step 1 or step 2), order your material, investigate if there are better books than the ones that u used and investigate about the material youll need for step 2 ck.

What i mean is that you should prepare for every possibility because everything could happen, but stop studying for a while so when u start again you're in the best shape

GOOD LUCK

Thank you guys. Well , right now here in GDL I feel much better. I star forgeting about the test.

Well, today I went to the School of Medicine "University of Guadalajara". I was soooooo impress with the service in the "centro escolar". Because I remember when I was in the school it was not to good. But yesterday ,I just called asking about my papers for verification. They gave me all the information by phone and what to do. Well, for everyone interested on this the Person in chart is: Srita. Patricia Yokogawa. She is super nice.

Thank you to everybody in this forum for trying to make me feel good. After all, We do not have to give up. I will take some days offs here in Guadalajara.

StemCell I took my test in Syracuse ,NY. I am living right now there but I am from GDL. I studied for about 1 year but for 6 months very intense (almost like 8 hrs. a day) and one month before the test super intense. I did not practice to many questions so make sure you do this before the test.

Good luck to everybody.

Hey guys I don’t know if that had happen to you…. But some people keeps saying me that in the US they don’t train you well because they are not clinical….. that they order a lot of studies, etc…..that here in mex you get to practice with a lot of patients…..
That annoys me a little bit…… is not that I believe that the US is the BEST no way!!!!
I didn’t ask them!!!! I’ve never said that im leaving because I want to get the best training!!!!
I cant understand why people believe that the best is what they have done… do u know what im trying to say????
In fact im not leaving….im here… I just passed one test……
AND the typical person that doesn’t know anything about it... and then she/he says: a friend of a friend passed with excellent scores and they don’t even interview him/her….specially when I was studying a lot of people told me about the son of a doctor that had excellent scores and that he didn’t get interviews …..and I was like well whats the problem if they don’t want me?? At last Im going to get knowledge while studying!!!!

spit...that is the voice of ignorance......you can go to an average hospital in the US and see the fiercest residents ever.....please people, say if u think other wise....but frankly many many AMG's are just phenomenal and with a breathtaking fund of knowledge........anyone that has visited a self respecting US program wont let me lie.....

I AM GOING TO THE US FOR BETTER TRAINING AND I COOULDNT BE MORE SURE ABOUT THIS...... .

i know is a very personal opinion, but dont get fooled by negative minds that wouldnt even dared to try what what u've tried.... sadly, the typical mexican dr thinks that only he (she) has the absolute truth.... try to take a look at different hospitals both in mexico and the US and youll find the truth for yourself...

...it is very easy to say something aint worth it...specially when u dont have the patience, perseverance, and determination (i.e. balls) to do it........

the major leagues are in the US spit....make no mistake about it..... follow ur plans and get eady to play with the big boys

Yep, it happens to me too spit..., can´t tell you that everyday but very often..., they try to show they´re "something" by putting you, your plans and convictions down..., besides ignorance I think there is a lot !/$#)% involved, envy, fear and feeling threat being some of them...

noxar you couldn´t find better words, I agree with you all the way...

  #2723

I agree with noxar

the truth is that very few people know well what this usmle road is about, very few. Even among doctors, forget about nurses or other professionals. So, it's precisely that huge ignorance what make them to say things like that. i.e. they can say the following things and more: "US doctors are not clinical, they order a lot of unnecessary tests; You'll see many patients here in Mexico and thus you'll be a great doc and that won't happen in the USA; Why do you want to go to the USA, do you like to live in the USA or what, why can't you study here in MX?"; etc. That is ignorance, a short perspective, sometimes frustration, envy, jealousy, etc.

I think the USA is one of the best countries or maybe the best in the world to study a medical speciality and that's why I'm personally going over there to study. Many top doctors (the best of the best, and sometimes in the world, real leaders in their fields) are in the USA and they don't have to be americans, many of them are foreigners, they just studied in the states and/or at their countries. You'll be studying (or "playing") in the "major leagues", sometimes with world renowned doctors beside you, can you imagine it?.

so, spitmetal please don't listen to these persons who are telling you all this crap, it's absolutely worthless to listen to them. Regarding that son of X doctor who got great scores and didn`t get any interview, well, as you are learning, scores aren't everything, it's just a very important part, but there are many other factors; in addition, it's only a bad experience and a bit of bad luck for that poor guy who didn't get any interview but that's all.

maybe I should finish with this: as a "coincidence" or "casualty", all the doctors who have told me it is an outstanding thing what I'm doing (or what I was trying to do in the past) and have congratulated me or that is an excellent chance or have told me they envy me but in a positive and good manner, all of them have in common that they are very good doctors. They aren't average.

hope we've helped you

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLIES GUYS
Well I just was trying to share my frustrations; I wanted to know if I was paranoid about it or if this kind of negative feedback happens to everybody.

The good part is that my family, friends and loved ones support me a lot…..

My mistake was that I studied in the school’s library some days between classes, so everybody asked me what the f… are u studying? Are u preparing for the usmle? Youre not going to make it, Nobody gets positions in the US, etc
And I really don’t know how the doctors that teach me found out about it, and they are the ones that keep telling me the negative comments.
