I know I am getting ahead of myself (a lot actually jaja) but I am curious to enquire about this... How does the the chief residency position work? Is there only one chief resident per specialty? Do you have to be in your last year? Who chooses you as chief resident? (other residents, faculty, etc) What are your responsabilities? Does this all vary in regards to the institution you are working at? Do you get paid more?

It is a study on the most importan tselection criteria for residency and fellowships after residency... It compares university and community based programs. Quite good, actually...

i can only speak for the program im going to.... Is there only one chief resident per specialty? yes Do you have to be in your last year? is on ur 3rd year for 4-year programs Who chooses you as chief resident? mostly the pd...but 'officially' the whole faculty...not sure about the staff (including other residents) What are your responsabilities? mostly teching studentd, schedule the rotations and vacation time for the rest of the residents, atteng administraive meetings,,,getting involved with the program at some deeper levels....budget meetings, things like that Does this all vary in regards to the institution you are working at? i would believe so....and mostly depending on whether is univ, comm or combined....in comm (private) hospitals i alla about the 'business' aspect of the programs...which i find it very interesting Do you get paid more? u probably get 500-1000 more a year...for travel or books or something like that, not a big deal at all what do u think of a 350z?....implanning on leasing myself....or maybe a TT....u can get a very good deal when u lease.....waddya think?

Is there only one chief resident per specialty? it varies from hospital to hospital, I remember seing a couple (2) of chief residents in some hospitals, Do you have to be in your last year? For example if you study IM, it's 3 years there, so, you can be a chief resident in an extra 4th year. Although you can be chief resident in your last year as well, it depends on the hospital. Who chooses you as chief resident? (other residents, faculty, etc) probably the attendings and the program director What are your responsabilities? you work as a resident but also a lot in administrative roles. Does this all vary in regards to the institution you are working at? of course, it must vary Do you get paid more? I'm not sure, but maybe you will earn like a PGY4

thanks noxar. I'm going to consider this sort of deal as well. It would be cool to go to the hospital in one of those cars.

yes...u dont really get to own the car in the sense that u cant sell it or anything like that.....u just get to pay for the amount of mone it devaluates every year somehow....but then u can change and lease some other all over again....i think is a good option for someone that is somehow limited on their income and really want to have a nice car..(such as an intern!)

I was thinking, what about the car insurance for the leased cars? do you pay more for this insurance because of its nature of being leased?

hey guys NOW i seriusly need your advise, please POST your oppinion, a lot of Universities ask for TOEFL as a requisite for an elective, but they told me that they could wave the TOEFL if a have passed the step 2 cs..... so i dont know what to do.... the toefl is cheaper, it cost like 150 bucks plus the studying material, it would be 250 dollars more or less, and i think that with a month or two of study i could get the score they want (79-80). but the problem whit the toefl is that i would lost unnesesary time, money and effort.... but if i dont get the score i need ill be losing just 200 dolars... in the other hand the CS is very expensive you know 1200 plus the hotel 1300 plus the transport and food 1500 plus the preparation material i think i'll be expending like 2000 BUKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its a lot of money man.... i think the CS would take more of my time like 2 or 3 months and if i fail the test i will have lost a huge sum of money...... the pros of taking the CS is that i will be focusing my energy, money and time in something that anyway i have to do in the future...... so what do you think i should go for the CS or for the TOEFL???????????

I'd go for the 2CS, doubtless. But that's just my opinion. You have to do it anyway (unlike TOEFL which is only needed for these rotations) and the difference in study time isn't that much and it will work as an english proficiency test as you say for your electives.

spit...u dont need to study 10 minutes to ace the toefl...let alone 2 months!....just book it and do it....it will be a piece of cake.....u need to worry and take care of your rotations and usce right now...having the s1 is half the usmle road....let the steps for when ure doing ur SS or whatever..ure a 4th year baby, for christ sake!! .....no, seriously, time is completely on your side dude....my 2 cents....

by the way, chema is right....studying for the s2cs would take 4-5 weeks tops...i agree with him on what he posted...the thing is that im sensing u need like a 'fast way' out of the requirement for the rotation...and the toefl is as fast ,cheap and easy as you can get for that objective... you NEED the english proficiency requirement, yes.....but u dont NEED the steps...see where im getting? worry about the steps when u have the right motivation and when ure fully ready to ace them.....again, just an opinion..
