I would like some advice. Iīm trying to get a position in IM. My fiancée is trying to get into pediatrics.

i have received a letter from USA embassy giving me the permanent resident Visa.

I wonder if this visa helps me to be accepted in a residency position and if this could help my FIANCÉE,too.

I have heard about positions for couples.

PLEASE I NEED INFORMATION OR ADVIcE

THANKS

Definitively that would help you in your application Dr. Gonzales (by the way, where are you from are you from Mexico?).

About your fiancee, the only way I know you could help her is if you are married and she is also a US resident ( like you).

About positions for couples, unfortunately i have no idea about it. I know itīs completely real, it exists but i donīt know how it works. Maybe you can look for that data in usmle.com or ecfmg.com.

Hope this helps smiling face

Thanks. I really appreciate your answer chemamr. iīm from Peru.

But...i know that if someone gets the J1 visa, that person has to get back to his country!!

What would happen if we get married and then she gets a position in pediatrics with the J1 visa. i t would be necessary for her to get back to peru? even if she is about to get the green card? or maybe that could be a good way to be accepted and then to stay there.?

thanks

By the way...

is it possible to get an interview or even better to match only with step1 and step2 ck scores? ( i mean...good scores?)

Green card will help you, not fiance. Not directly. It will take longer for her to get a green card from your green card.

Good luck.

(Which school? Cayetano or San......shoot, I forgot the name....)

Well Dr. Gonzales about J1 for your fiancee, thatīs not a problem, in fact most IMGs get a J1 only and most of them get a waiver (= they donīt have to come back to their countries for those 2 years) by a sponsor and they can get a job, but if this doesnīt happen, itīs not a problem either, because with your Green Card you can get a K3 visa and with this one she (your fiancee) can live and work in USA while her papers are arranged.

About your last question of the match/interview I donīt have a definitive answer. But what I know is that IMGs must have all their papers (ECFMG certificate = passed 1+2CK+2CS) by August, so they can match in an adequate way.

smiling face Take care Dr. Gonzales and Good Luck !

Gonzales - yes, I have many residents from Peru - that's how I learned about Pisco Soursnod. But since my privacy is a highly guarded secret, I can't send out their emails or even send yours on to them. If you figure out who I am and ask me (not on this group), I will admit who I am.

But as soon as my secret identity is known, I'm off the list.shaking head

So...iīll save some dollars for the Pisco!!!

talking about applications....

iīm planning to take step 2ck in late september, my scores would be ready by late october.

Do i have less opportunities to get interviews at that time ?(i think most programs have december as dealine but i read that at that time they are busy) or it wonīt decrease my opportunities?

thank you

Apply as soon as you can - with step one and two scores, waiting for CK, you should be okay!wink

Do you mean applying just with STEP1 SCORE and waiting for step2 score would be OK?

or

applying with step1 score + csa +waiting for step2ck score?

because i īm planning to take CSA in december.

thank you. and sorry if i insist too much. i just want to be very sure:

My options are :

1.- Apply the first week of november with step1(95/235) and step2 CK scores( i hope to get more than 90) or

2.- Apply the first week of october with step1 score (95/235) and waiting for step2 CK score.

Which one do you think would be better? are my possibilities to get the interview intact with any of this combinations ?

thank you in advance.

It's easy - the sooner your application is in the system for all residency programs, the better. Programs know that applicants don't all take the test at the same time. They know that scores are released and will come in the future. I would advise to apply as soon as you can - please don't wait for November. By November, I have very few interview slots.

I had 37 people start - all but three of the applications were received in Sept/Oct. Only one was received in November - that was a student who had done rotations here.

Apply as soon as you can. There is a place for you to put your examination dates - and the option to put a "will take" date.

Good luck
