if you have a difficult or annoying patient?

Anyone? try to answer this. This is a very relevant q & will really happen in your own future private practice.

If you don't want to see your established patient anymore, you should send him/her a certified letter saying, "..I will not be able to see you anymore..please find another physician...I will see you in the next 30 days in case of emergency,,," You don't specify the reason why you don't want to see the patient

If you see a patients in your office first time and you don't feel like being his PCP, you just tell patient that you will not see him/her again and charge no money for the visit. If you charge money for the first visit, he/she would be considered as an established patient, and you would have to give a 30-day noitice to get rid of him/her

WOW I saw that happen yelenatx.. But do you know any reason/reasons why a doctor shld do that?

Kaplan behavioral says never abandon your patient. An annoying or difficult pt. is still your patient.

In your statement it says that when you send your letter you should give the pt 30 days allowance to find another doctor so that's not abandonement right?

This is a good way to get rid of drug addicts
If you give a 30-day notice it is not an abandoment
In a real life you can get rid of anybody you don't feel comfortable of taking care of

  #6

wow, thatīs a good issue nod

- patients who don't pay their bills
- patients who try to manipulate you (fake symptoms) to get benefits or free equipment, such as motorized wheel chairs, handicap stickers, skooters,
- patients who lie to you (pretend they are in severe pain, get pain pills and share them with their uninsured relatives)
