From the q.. The physician decides when the pt. is dead. What if there are no more tx. options (PATIENT IS CORTICALLY DEAD) and the family insists on treatment? Answer: If there are no options, there is nothing the physician can do, treatment must stop. Other thing is: What if the physician thinks continued tx. is futile ( the pt. has shown no improvement) but the surrogate insists on continued tx? Answer: Of course the treatment should continue. Now.. what do you think about the Teri Schiavo case?
