congrats friscan, can you help me with a few doubts regarding the exam:

did you get enough time for every case or did you run out of time in any case

is there enough time to complete all the stuff required for each case

do they keep tissue and water and mask; what is the mask used for if they keep it

thanks, and congrats again, bye, gollum

Rubyedward, Dev and Gollum05 thanks so much!

Yes, the OASIS trick is still working, it is just that you have to do it after the score gets reported.

Now Gollum I got out of every room (except for one) a minute or two earlier. Now, I don't know how "sensitive" or "specific" this thing might be, because I might have gotten out earlier because there were things that I forgot to ask and to do (and there were some, believe me!).

Now, I don't remeber specifically about the water, the tissue, and the mask, but I'm pretty sure they have them. I do remember that I had one guy to whom I offered some water, so there are cups, and you have the tap water.

Looking back at the way I prepared, at how I was freaking out, and reading from 3 books and doing UW, and looking in Bates, and how the exam was, what I can say is that you have to touch the basics, and build upon that, if you want, but you would be ok with the basics. It took me so long to realize how good the Kaplan book was, straight to the point, that's what you need, not "short stories or a novel". First Aid is great, too, like I said before in other posts, "cause it discusses the dd and the work-up in detail, but Kaplan is straight to the point!

In the exams, I forgot to drape one patient, I forgot to wash my hands with another patient, and there were things that I forgot to ask or perform during the PE, but I was very nice and considerate with all of them, I answered all their concerns. So, don't freak out about this exam, it's very doable.

Best of luck to you all, and for whoever want to ask anything, feel free to do it.

A.

hi friscan2b congrats.can u please tell me how to prepare for pt.notes.thanks.

Hey Sujju,

Thanks for the congrats.

At first I read a few patient notes from First Aid to see how they were written, and then, I would start by thinking of the Qs that I was supposed to ask and look at what the book was saying that the patient answered, and at the PE findings and after all that, I would set the alarm for 10 minutes and and start writing the note. I would follow the chief complaint chronologically and by SIQORAAA, and then the rest of the stuff. When you get to the PE it's pretty easy because most of them have mostly normal findings, except for maybe just very few abnormal things.

And in the exam I first wrote down the DD and the work up as someone suggested on one of the posts in this forum, to make sure I get those down for sure and then zipped through the rest.

Best of luck to you!

A.
