hi all prep4usmle friends,

Today I got my step2ck score- 78/190, it was my first attempt & i took it before step1. I was getting 70-76% in kaplan Q bank, can't make out what went wrong with me. After seeing the score i am feeling quite low, I don't know what to do now.I never imagined such a low score. Is there any chance of getting residency with this score?? Feeling helpless. sad

Should i quit taking any step further? World seems to over for me. I am totally lost & quite depressed, what to do now?shaking head

I need your help & advice. Is there any ray of hope?

ravi

dont let the low score get you; you passed step2 ck; congratulations.......be thankful and move on........

  #3

its not the end of the world.....to get great score is something, but it certainly is not everything...i've heard people still get into the residency with the margin scores...don't loose heart, keep trying to get other requirements like LOR, USCE. it may be competitive but there is always a hope and chance. good luck.

  #4

and congratulations....u passed CK while we're still trying....

hello ravi_online

Do not be sad. Try to find confidence in the fact that you are trough. As somebody said on this forum, score are good for getting you to an interview. Stick to your plan, study hard for Step 1 , get a good score there. And lets not forget that beside scores resumes, LOR and cover letter have some importance too in getting a residency. They say family medicine and im is easier to get in, so focus on getting residency on those areas. Stick to this forum and also get advices from others who got through

good luck, and congratulation

hi ravi,

first of all congrats because you have passed the exam...They say that passing equals residency; so cheer up; you still have 2 more exams to go; put this exam behind you; i would suggest that you work on step 3 and try to get good marks in that; that will make up for the marks; take a week or two off and think about what next you can do; there are people who have scored like you and are in better residency programs than people with great marks; so cheer up and don't give up; you can make it

Hry Ravi,

First of all congratulations for passing it, and don't be that sad because of that number, it's just a number. I know people with scores under 80 in both exams that are doing residency, one in OB-GYN (yes, I'm not kidding you), and the other one in Family Practice.

So, don't lose hope, just try to make the best out of the rest (like you would have done anyway, right?), give it your best shot, and you'll get there!

Best of luck to you!

A.

hi ravi_online. I want to tell you what some of my friends experienced. I have a senior intern who got a 75/76 on step1/step2 and still managed to get matched in a good training hospital in brooklyn. The point is... getting good grades will get you the interview... but during the interview, your grades take the backseat... you have to know how to SELL yourself... it's a matter of character and attitude. They would rather have you pass it the 1st time you take the step rather than getting a much higher score on a 2nd believe me... this was what some of my colleauges said.

Don't be disheartened because not scoring high in the steps doesn't mean you won't get matched anymore. I'm from the Philippines and medical graduates here are pretty laid back... not many people get 90s... mostly 70s and 80s... and you'd be surprised because program directors would be looking at your attitude than your grade when it comes to the interview.... so I think the best thing to do is accept, take your steps... and do well in the interviews you will be getting... that's it. I even have a friend who got matched on a 78/79 with an H1 visa... it's all up to the attitude and character you exude in your interview... good luck

hello dev & trishue

thanks for for your reply... but when i see my score ...my heart beats stops for a moment. How this has happened to me? I think its my fault i didn't revise my study notes. I did only once. I nourish the dream to study in USA since last 10 yrs. but it's now seems broken like pieces of glass. wish you all the best my dear friends!

I have already paid the exam. fee for step 1 & cs but I'm still in illusion what to do now?

God please help me! give me the courage to move ahead in life.

ravi

I can understand how you are feeling. But please have faith you still got 2 more exams to give so keep a positive attitude and yeah scores are just for screening purposes only.

Well Good luck for step1...you have step2 Ck that is great.

smiling face CHEER UP MAN!

JUST PASSING @ YOUR FIRST ATTEMPT IS AN ACCOMPLISHMENT, TAKE A FEW DAYS OFF, AND FOCUS THEN YOUR ENERGY ON STUDYING FOR STEP 1.

EVERYTHING WILL BE ALL RIGHT, ALSO IF YOU WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR APPLICATION CONSIDER STUDYING FOR STEP 3 AND TAKE IT THIS YEAR.

BEST REGARDS, AND IF U NEED SOME ADVICE ON STEP 1 LET ME KNOW!

listen dude...stop acting so miserable and what not....get over it.....i am from india and i also did the same mistake as u did ....was a bit overenthusiastic and ended up scoring 81 in step1...when my other friends who hardly studied as much as me got in the 90's.....i realised that it was a matter of getting your testtaking abilities right also...its not enough if u have crammed the whole book or understood all concepts.....i took my step2 recently but was more cautious ...yet to receive my score though....the good thing is that u have step1 to cover still....its relatively easier than step2...use ur energy for that instead of lamenting for something that cannot be undone now......its amazing that u scored 74 in UW but something must have gone wrong during ur exam....accept it and move forward....i know lots of guys who scored justpass in usmle....were denied visas...went to UK and now jumped to USA and doing residencies.....maybe god is testing u....dont lose confidence in yourself....be strong....forget about the past..think about the future.....u will do well in step1...just make sure u get ur act right....Good luck.

I just want to congradulate for passing the step, there are so many resons to be happy after having your exam done ,and there are so many Drs here in this forum giving you hope , but if I pass all of my steps I will be happy , it is sure that having 99&99 at all the exams is always better than for example 85/85, but i have seen Drs that passed with 75& 75 and matched and in good programs, and please donot forget it is just an exam , and you have already passed it.

Good Luck.
