Dear BBB,

I am wondering whether the programme director allow a resident (after being matched ) to start his residency 4 months later than normal starting time ,suppose at November 2006 instead of June 2006. Do they usualy allow or they simply cancel the matched resident and take a new one...

Please help me to guess the reality .

Thanks .

Probably a little of each. First, you really have to have a good reason why you would start late and not just wait for the match of the following year (that will be one question from a PD). Remember, programs need residents in place to take care of patients admitted in the hospital - a program may not be able to wait for a late resident.shaking head
