Hi guys,I really need help for this issue.I am approaching to this "vast ocean" which is the application process for the Match.I was finding out the documents I need to submit to the ERAS and I discovered a curious and funny paper for a foreign medical graduate like me...the MSPE.I went on the ERAS website and I did check out a "template" for this document...well,I don't think my University in Italy is gonna be able to issue a paper like,in particulary because the study course is completely different respect to the american one.And unfortunately it seems that this MSPE is mandatory for the application. Is there anybody who had and solved my same problem or just could give me a good advice? Thank you guys, hope to hear from you soon.

For IMGs, ECFMG acts as a Dean and send all the documentation needed. I was having the same dilemma as you do, but I found this booklet about ERAS on AAMC website and read everything about ERAS application.

Thank you,Claudia! But I didn't get it,I am sorry...I tried to write out the booklet and in this website as well, but still I didn't find anything clear about this letter for IMGs.Somebody says that you just need a piece of paper from your university, somebody else says that I don't need it.I did contact some residency programs and they told me they need the letter... So about you, what did you do exactly?Did you send a Dean's letter? And in which format?May I ask you in which university you graduated? Anyway, thank you a lot for answering so quickly.

I have the same problem in submitting the Dean's Letter (=MSPE). You can find a template and guide here: http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/support/mspegui... Unfortunately most medical schools outside the US do not use the same system in evaluating students and have no idea how to write a MSPE. So, what you have to do is explain to your medical school exactly what the need to write and ask them to adhere to what is included in the template as much as they can. It will not be perfect, but you will have something to submit... Good luck!

deans letter is not mandatory for aplication.you can aiways check the box that says deans letter will not be provided by you. its just a letter from your dean telling how about how you were as a student.no sweat if you cant get it.

Thank you, cool babe. This seems to be the most common "approach" to the problem. The fact is that a secretary from a residency program told me that they "need" a "Dean's Letter" and I got confused.I'll try to double-check. Thank for your reply. A big bye.

hi, i think all the imgs face the same problem, bcoz our medical schools are out side the US and they issue deans letter that is completely diff from the template shown on eras website. But that is the template for MSPE letter. If u have a DEAN'S LETTER that has been written in a diff way, u can submit that aswell. My school issues a dean's letter of one page. But i know my school fellows have used that in the previous match and have been matched in good programs. hope this helps.

Hi, I too am having the same problem with the Deans letter. My college said that it will just give a piece of paper giving the number of hours and the clinical rotations I did but not the performance etc.The Ecfmg however has said that a Deans letter can be submitted during the transitory period.Does that mean you have to submit MSPE eventually? Why are they asking to incude that when we are submitting the transcripts anyway???My whole life is now revolving around these certificates!! -jedi

^^Can we still submit Dean's Letters in lieu of MSPEs? Or is there a new policy that only MSPEs are accepted by ERAS?

I just get one so-called MSPE but another name replaced it is a Medical School's Letter of Recommendation. I guess ECFMG can accept it. Actually, the content of the Letter is relatively similar to MSPE . My school didn't want sign MSPE in because it is so obligated for him to sign. You can do it like me. I have no choice. Good luck, buddies.

For IMGs all they care is your scores and how long have you been out of medical school and above all ,with few exceptional high scorers,WHO YOU KNOW.I know of IMGs with low scores, several attempts making into residency because they knew somebody who knew the all powerful, allmighty program director.Back in our country they called it nepotism. Here it is called reference. The word is a bit respectable but has equally bad intent.
