hello people...just took my exam on the 20th......my exam was pathetic....my first 3 blocks were completely greek and latin.....i think i blocked out...anyway the rest of the exam was better in the sense that i could atleast understand the qtns.....i have no idea what to make of it until i get my score.....and will post my views definetly then.....
by the way...just around 4 dyas before the exam i started scoring 72 average in UW...before that it used to be between 55-63....so i had to postpone my exam for another week and study onemore time...i had already studied for 2 months but no matter what i did my UW scores used to fall around the 55 mark...i later realised that my approach to the qtns were wrong....although i seemed to have studied everything from the kaplan books.....so heres what i did...i started reading a topic and then repeated the topic in my mind without peeking....i would list out the most common cause, 1st step in rx....and best step..and so on ...if by any chance i had difficulty memorising or understanding something then i would frame it up in a qtn and then it would be easy to remember....for eg...hydroxyurea is used in RA as a DMD...but isnt it meticulous to remember that it causes retinopathy?...so i framed myself a qtn wherein a RA patient blah blah comes to u with retinopathy and has a whole list of drugs..which is the likely cause of retinopathy?...i started framing qtns like these for some tough ones to remember and believe me it helped....i wish i had done it earlier so that my scores in UW would have also been improved....
one more thing...dont do the UW over and over again and hope to get a good score....its better if u do it one time but read all the explanations...its very impt to understand the concepts....i recommend u read a topic and test urself each time after every topic with around 20 qtns....that would help u to remember the material...and then u could test urself with the remaining qtns after ur study...hope this helps...mail me if u need anything....
dont get disheartened if u r not scoring too well....try to analyse on ur weak areas and work on them until u master them....i was weak in hemat..but i worked so hard on it and finally mastered it which also boosted my confidence in other areas as well....do not omit anything while studying because u will find that subject repeating most on ur exam ...think its got to do more with ur psychology...bye and all the best to all.

Thanks alot Subsub for sharing your experience with us. You know I always try to do as you did by repeating the topic in my mind but I usually get lost somewhere else in my thoughts,I guess it requires quite a bit of determination,if there is any tip you would like to give to reinforce the same then please do let me knowwink

Anyways did you really mean it that you studied for just 2 months?confused

GL for the resultsnod

hi nizan...i dont really remember the exact number of the next best qtns....but i think they were really quite a significant few....cant really say anything...the qtn stem would be jumbled up with a patient full of symptoms and multiple diseases..but i guess the qtn asked would be quite straightforward....nobody can give u a correct view of the exam...its very subjective....so better be prepared in all aspects...thats the best way....before my exam i was quite sure that the exam would be easier than usmleworld...but im wrong...expect the same range of difficulty...but i think the scoring system is different....so just be prepared for all range of qtns.

hi ria...again i would say not to compare urself with others in preparation...do what is best for u.....i did the 3 months of kaplan course and then 2 months of studying...so effectively its 5 months...and i had started studying before that too....so i guess im wrong when i say 2 months...

ur doing the right thing by repeating the topic in ur mind....dont give up...maybe the second time around would be better.....if by any chance i had difficulty remembering something then i would frame a qtn out of it and then try and remember it....i guess the logic is that the time spending on framing a qtn out of the topic would help u remember that stem anyway.....and try to find differential diagnosis for every doubtful topic...for eg i used to get confused with hematology...esp when thrombocytopenia used to turn up....so i made a list of all the causes of thrombocytopenia and how to differetntiate them....merely trying to cram will only result in short term memory...try understanding the concept.....all the best.
