Kaplan Qbank USMLE

hello everyone,

though not new to this forum i have'nt posted as many topics as most of you do or did.

i went through the experience of preparing and giving the step 2CK over 4and 1/2 months and i felt my story would be of some help to ... atleast some peoplesmiling face

i prepared using kaplan material and blueprints for surgery and peds. i read the kaplan material once before doing their video lectures and then went over them twice later. i used to do the qbank questions simultaneously and started usmle world while doing internal medicine tapes.i managed to study b/w 6-8 hrs a day while doing the tapes in the morning and after they were over i averaged about 10-12 hrs a day.

i found usmle world very helpful and would recommend it to everyone who can do it before the exam.

the scores as i did them were:

kaplan q bank:75-90%(espec in surgery- i scored high there)

usmle world-:60-80%(somehow obg and psych were easy here)

kap simulated:82%(2 weeks before the test date)

on the usmle cd i got -90%i don't remember the exact breakup bwetween the 3 blocks but i had 13 mistakes overall.this was 3 weeks before my test date.

i wanted to do nbme but decide against it as time was very less at the end.in the last week i just reveiwed my notes. i had crush step 2 with me but didn't use it - again no time.the same with cmdt.

now the exam day:

i managed a good night's rest before the exam (the importance of which is relised in the last 2 blocks).recommended again.smiling face

the q's were mainly not very long but time is barely enough. the topics heavily tested were int med(35%) peds and obg (25% each) and then psych (2-3 q's per block). i had very few behav science q's and statistics was very easy(just basic stuff like std deviation and one"power" q)pictures were easy.there were 2 odd q's of step 1 kind - one from micro and another of biochem.i'll post more later as i remember.i am mostly numb right now.

i felt i did ok overall but am not relying much on myself as i felt even better after my step 1 in december- whose aftermath took me 2 months to recover from.

i have slogged hard for this and hope( based on not faith but practice test results) that i might just.. well whatever god wills.

so if anyone has any q's i will be happy to reply( as right now on a vacation) before moving onto cs forum.

wish you all the best.

jaylike.

hey jaylike.. i am anxious about my grade as well. i studied for 5 months and its my second attempt. after the exam, i felt confident but now after recalling all the mistakes i made... i'm not so sure...

do you know the percentage of questions you need to get right to pass?

hi jaylike..nice to know youre done with the exam..i have mine next week and just wanted to know what sort of statistics questions you got..what should i be concentrating on right now?

hi all,

r753 , i do not know the no. of questions needed to pass.. but if you do, do tell me.

ria, i read both kaplan and BP for preds and surgery, but kaplan was the base throughout my prep.

snowy, i got a q on statistical power of a sample and one on std deviation, one on coefficient of variation. rest i can't recall but if you have used kaplan material nothing of what i got was out of it.so all the best- stats should be your last worry.

Hi jaylike thanks for the information,,,

just wanna know,,, how was the next best/next rx/ next best step etc. questions?? and how much did it constitute in whole exam,, thanks and GL for your results.

hi nizan,

there were many q's(abt 50%) of the next step kind, but most were very easy, the q gives away the dx.

so don't worry. do well
