What can you give a pt with gallstones to dissolve the stones? What meds?

Cholestyramine is used to dissolve them !

If symptomatic .. Elective Lap Chole done .. mainly!

But in those pts in which Lap Chole is dontraindicated .. they are given 1

is'nt cholestyramine a bile-acid binding resin!

chenodeoxycholate and ursodeoxycholate are most commonly used oral dissoluting agents- but still used very infrequently in case of small radioluscent stones!

but again for large stones elective cholecystectomy should be considered!

You know I was thinkning the same thing, it lowers your cholesterol level but I don't think it would dissolve the stones.
