Once he finds an employer that is willing to sponsor him for the permanent residency, yes.

hi bbb, i am presently an intern on a h1b visa, and an employer assured me that they would hire me after residency training. they said that they would be willing to sponsor me for a green card. can one apply for permanent status while one is still doing residency on a h1b visa? my prospective employer said that they're going to write the INS a letter of intent to hire me right after training -- so would it be possible to apply for permanent resident status now?

Hi lf777, Thanks for replying to my question. I have another one -- should I ask for a contract now? Is there a book you can recommend on how to negotiate, the right questions to ask, etc.? Thanks in advance.

Manggagamot - do you have an employer who is willing to sponsor the greencard for you? Then yes, ask.
