Hi Guys,

I'm an IMG, living in the US.

After long term study, eventually, I took my exam yesterday and unfortunately had a terrible experience I could ever imagine!

Everything was going so well with my test until I got the last block. When I checked the timer on the computer it was showing that "19 minutes remaining" and then the computer closed the section and it did not allowed me to provide an answer to the question I was viewing at the moment. Unfortunately, my exam ended with the remaining 15 - 20 unanswered questions 19 minutes earlier. Obviously, there was a problem with the computer and it did not keep track of my break time, tutorial time, and the time allocated for each block of the test appropriately (correctly).

I took 5 or 10 minutes short breaks which is total 55 minutes break time during the exam.

Also, I skipped tutorial (15 minutes) which would be added to my break time!

After I complete time for each block during the test, I've got a screen, which computer was asking me whether I want to take a break or continue and I responded immediately without consuming any time during those transitions among the blocks.

I really do not know what happened to my remaining 19 minutes and why my exam expired 19 minutes earlier?? Any comment would be really appreciated… and also I'd like to make future exam takers aware of such possibility during the exam…

Hello D_D I am shocked by ur query , as for i know this usually does not happen.
All i can say u could have complained to the proctor.
AND I think by missing 19 questions u may lose a percentile of = 2 -- 3 , so lets hope thyet u r not hurt much.

Royalgeorge,

thank you very much for your concern. I'm very unfortunate and desperately sad. Tomorrow I will send a letter to USMLE and explain the situation.

The proctor at the test center withnessed the situation but did not behave friendly. Anyway, I do not know the procedure but I will wait for any explanation from USMLE.

hello D_D

i am shocked to know this. plz do not lose heart and do complain to the USMLE. at least it happened in the last block and not in the first few that could've done even more damage.

20 unanswered q seems like a 2-3 percentile diff. try to get some document frm the authorities to substantiate their fault. i pray and hope u'r not affected much by all this.

all the best

Thank you guys for your prayers! After long time frustration and struggling with the exam study, finally I have to deal with this... I try to find a way to cope with it and stay calm.

Exam is doable and every basic knowledge was tested. Mostly questions were clinical oriented.
Surprisingly, I've got many prostate related questions, 2 sildenafil, and many micro pics and CTs...

hey don't just write a letter. Call and call frequently until you can speak to someone directly. They should certainly be able to verify that your last 19 Q's were left unanswered and that time had not expired. I think that this is one of those things that you will need to be persistent with if you want to elicit a good response/result. go for it

Hi, I'm totally frustrated... was scoring 67.7% in QBANK and had taken NBME 1 with 400/192. Took my exam today and it was a disaster... Only 2 out of 7 blocks I could read and go through the 50 questions. The last 5 questions of each of the remaining 5 blocks I had to simply check "c" in the last 4-6 questions.... it sucks.. I never expected this to happen and am totally frustrated... I feel like I will never passa this exam...

has this happened to anyone and thereafter got surprising results? I mean, I feel like I will not pass at all... and feel absolutely discouraged.

Sashi.

Hi D-D, sorry to learn about your situation. I hope you have had a positive response from the USMLE. I know of someone whose computer shut down and refused to work after 3 hours into the exam. He was given a pretty decent score based on just the 3 blocks that he had completed- but he is a local student, and not an IMG. Those of us that believe in god will be praying for you!

Lisa, thank you so much for being so sensitive and nice!

Did this guy you mentioned get a decent score based on only 3 blocks he took without retaking the exam ???
