Hello,
I got my score today and want share some thoughts:
- first the step 2 is more difficult as you probably know comparing to step 1; the question format is much, much longer and you need to choose from more that 5 choices; most of the questions have about 10 or more choices.
- the time is more precious and you need a lot of practice; overall I was able to finish the blocks with only 5-8 min before the time is over comparing to step 1 exam where I finished 10-15 min before; therefore you only have time to review only about 5-10 marked questions
- they ask common things so don't loose time with too detailed books; just do questions - I used only NMS, Qbank, Mock, ExamMaster and couple of PreTests but there is place for more
- Blueprint for OBGYN and Psychiatry are more then enough, if you know them there will be no problems
- Crush the Boards and First Aid are perfect for the 2-3 weeks before the exam and these 2 books were my only source for public/preventive medicine
- UCV are perfect and I used the UCV Neurol as the only source for that field

GOOD LUCK to all of you :!:

Hi Jasonw,
This score may be a good one but I'm pretty sure it is not a very good one.
Thank you very much for your support!

hi!

I do think 88/226 is really good.
Off course it depends on what specialty u wanna do....
If u wanna do surgery, it s borderline.

  #5

dear jason w from Poland
frankly, i can't believe people would write in response to what they think a score of 88/226 is. If you knew about getting into residency in USA, you would know that surgery spots are easier to get into now than before because the majority of students are going after 'easier' fields. Yea, you will definitely have your type A's applying for it, whether from the US or IMGs.. but so what? and what do you care if a score is good enough or not for any residency. If you have a better score than an 88, post it.. and tell us what you did, if not, just clam up!!

passing step II is not as easy as it used to be.. just study.. and let people enjoy their success.

God Bless America!

Hello Hamidi,
Thank you for your support!
I didn't use the cd, I used the online access for couple of 100s of questions. I do think that there is no single MCQ source for step 2 that I can compare with the real exam but some of them are close to it.
If you want to try their free 50 questions you may visit this topic where you can find a gate to the online access. You can allso vote in that poll and I hope more students will share some thoughts with us.

Regards!

Hi ,
Congratulations for your good score , you did very well !!!!
i have few questions ,
Since you talked about Mock exam in your mail , is this the one by Adam Brochert ? How is it ?
What do you think about Appleton and lange Mcq "s ? Are they good as Kaplan's ?
Did you use both First Aid step2 as well as Crush the board .............coz everybody says that first aid for step 2 is not good .
Do ALL the questions in Step 2 exam start with clinical history ? How many questions did you get for subspecialities like opthal, ENT or Dermatology ?
Please advise and Congrats once again !!

Hi,
Mock book is by Adam Brochert and it has some nice questions with clinical cases. Of course there are couple of questions not quite similar to the ones in the exam but nevertheless I would recommend this book to my friends.

Sorry, didn't use the A&L.

Yeah I used both First Aid & Crush the boards. I don't know why other exam takers don't have a good impression about First Aid, I did like this book esp. because the edition I used has more than 400 review pages !!!

Sorry I can't tell you too much about the q in the exam but my impression is that exam q were more difficult even than the ones from Kaplan Qbank and the time may be a real problem if one did not practice a lot of q.

Regards !

could u please advise about the last month prep strategy before exam

  #15

Hi,

i am in IMG and i plan to buy mock exam, blue print series, NMS and Q bank , Q book for step 2. also the kaplan review books....how much time do you think i should give to the notes? do they really require excessive memorization.

while studying should we go into details of lab inestigation? i mean should we have a general idea as to how the procedure or test is done or a really good idea in depth?

thank you.

  #16

to guest: review the material you studied, personal notes etc; don't read new information for the last month, do many questions

to Maria: not sure about the time table you need, take as long as you need; the lab staff is a must know, they love to ask what is the best/most specific/most sensible test to diagnose a patient condition

Regards!

I have been studying heavily from Boards and Wards, Q-bank, Advanced Life Support, and NMS.
Just wondering if there is anything else I should be doing that I am overlooking.

I have access to all the Blueprints, but don't want to waste my time.

Let me know if you have any opinions

Thanks
Chad H
