i wanna study surgery too, iīm an IMG. I think the most important thing to get a general surgery residency is to get good scores in the steps. Many people says about >200. I think if we could get those scores weīll get it. Of course there are top (very good) programs that ask you for >220 or >230 and regular or bad programs that have no a specific score (itīs enought to be ECFMG certificate for them, no matter if you got 182 or anything). I think itīs possible and there are a lot of, a lot of hospitals in US with surgery residency, so, we can do it. Just study hard for your steps. About clinical experience my opinion is that it may be very useful for your application, but itīs very difficult to get one of them. So, the second option is to get research activities, and thatīs easier to get than a clinical experience. But many, many non-US citizens, IMG-s get their residency program without any clinical experience or research, they just passed their steps and thatīs it. Hope this helps.
