If a pt had Vit D toxicity, along with hypercalcemia, would the pt be in a stuporous state? If not what would cause hypercalcemia and stupor? Thanx

i can only think of metabolic acidoisis which is related to hypercalcemia ,as met.acidosis depresses neuronal activity!

Can you explain that? I don't really get it, and would the acidosis cause stupor?

sorry buddy my mistake! it's hypercalcemia tht leads to decreased neuronal activity ,met.acidosis does so too but by inc.free Ca++ levels in the blood! in any event whether there is hypercalcemia or high free Ca++ (acidosis) ,neuronal activity will be depresed partly due to the fact tht high Ca++ levels prevents ful excitation of votage gated Na+ channels in neuronal memebranes and thterefore permeability of Na+ is reduced and so is the excitability! am not sure abt stupurous state just due to hypercalcemia, but this factor (inc. Ca++) is additive!

Thank you, but do you know the symptoms of hypervitaminosis D? and would stupor be part of that? thank you
