what causes each? and how do you differentiate them?

G6PD def. - episodic anemia with presence of heinz bodies

pyruvate kinase - anemia with high 2,3 bpg levels and no heinz biodies

In addition:
G6PD - is an X-linked disorder thus seen in male patients despite being trigger by oxdizing agents, antibiotic esp sulfonamides and anti-TB drugs

G6PD is an X-linked disorder and PKdefic isnīt. smiling face

Also G6PD is more common in african american. Can be triggered by fava beans, sulfas, antimalarial, etc.

fava beans= favism (Very common in Mediterranean diets)
