hi have been reading the posts in these forums, and had already asked this question but answers have varied a lot. my background - step 1 - 255/99 step 2 cs - july 11 step 2 ck - sep 6 going for gen surgery, graduating in july end u guys generally advised to apply latest by oct beginning. but then there was one post which said that one should apply as soon as possible in september while waiting for the step 2 ck result and its good if the application enters the system as soon as possible (which means i should apply in early sep after giving ck) then there was another saying that programs generally look at the applications once, and one should be as ready with regard to scores, certification etc. as possible before applying (which means i should apply in late sep/early oct) hope u guys help out. am kinda confused . thanks

Apply as soon as possible. Your test results will the posted as they come in - on your application, there is a spot that you can put when you are taking or will take the steps that you need.

People say that because its always good to have as many scores as possible when applying. So when people expect that they will get their result in a month or so, they do tend to wait and apply around october beginning. But when you know you wont have scores by than, than its better to apply early with one score rather than wait forever for rest of them and apply very late. Though its always better to apply as soon as possible, applying by october doesnt do much harm IMO if you think your additional score will strengthen your app.

the risk is that you can be triaged based on not meeting their addmissions criteria. This is more likely if you have a low step I and need the other score to boost your chances. Theoretically, programs should keep your application open until their application deadline. Once your application is complete, they will review it. It doesn't always work this way, unfortunately. I would say for surg, you should apply early to maximize your chances. If they are going to triage you, well, so be it. If not, you may get your foot in the door earlier.

thanks nonstopdoc and retro well another contradicting opinion. guess its not clear cut as to what one should do. As majority are in favour of applying early, and I personally dont have much idea, guess sep 1 is the date then, with just my step 1 scores Thanks again everyone
