Some people say that Fadem's (BRS) chapter about Doctor-Patient Relationship is totally useless and others say exactly the same words about Kaplan LN: Behavioral Science. Where is the Truth?

guys plz answer which is better book kaplan or BRS? i am reading BRS is that alone sufficient??

  #4

i recently started brs and then i looked in first aid where they have posted a minus for it. personally i think it is over explained and time consuming and not very helpful if your exam is near. h.y is that respect is concise .i would recommend you to stick to that.

I don't think HY is a good choice for the Step 1 if you do want high scores (and I do). Also, I think Bhushan's recommendations (in every subject) are below than average if your aim is high score. HY is just shortened version of BRS, which by itself is insufficient in many highly tested areas. One good thing about BRS is many very USMLE-ish MCQs, which aren't presented in HY. Worst parts in both Fadem's are about epidemiology and biostatistics (in contrast, these chapters are very good in Kaplan lecture notes). I don't have any info about Fadem's textbook 'Behavioral Science in Medicine', 2003, 400p. LWW

Hi, i use Kaplan and BRS together. it takes a longer time, but some topics are better expl in kaplan, others in BRS. when i read only BRS, i sometimes didnt understand topic, the similar was when read only kaplan. Both books are good when used together.

Look at kaplan step 2 behavioral , step 1 behavioral & FA, I think you'll be fine.

What is Kaplan step 2 behavioral? Do you mean Kaplan step 2 psychiatry? I have Kaplan lecture notes for both steps and in the kaplan step 2 there is no 'behavioral' subject.

btw I am not the one to go in for too much books or labour....and this time I guess I will try to be more active in here..for my step 2 i was a lazy sloth...sticking out tongue

I made the mistake to study from HY wich I think it lacks of many things that are vital for step 1. When I was at the end of the HY book a friend of mine lent me kaplan's book, and wow it was different! I also watched a Dr Daugherty's lectures and this guy is amazing. Before I read Kaplan I really liked HY, afterwards I stopped liking HY and started to hate it! I was really frustrated, I felt that i totally wasted 3 weeks on HY... and that's time I would have prefered to spend on Kaplans. So forget about barbara fadem BRS or High yield, Dr Daugherty is the man! BREAST FIRE!
