Any one who wants to challenge CS exam (including score reports, SPs, etc), please feel freely to send your questions to: explore_cs@yahoo.com. In order to start it, I will raise several questions first. 1, Necessity for American students to take CS? American medical graduates do not have to pass CS before starting the residency. They only need to take it before July 1 (?). From USMLE March reports, about 96% American graduates who took the CS had passed. So, only 4% (less than 5%, if you consider normal distribution in statistics) failed. This number means CS makes no difference among American graduates, which will negate the possibility of CS to improve their clinical skills. When talking about the necessity of CS for American graduates, USMLE had claimed (using extreme example) previously that some medical students might have never seen a patient before graduation. So, why asking American students to take CS, when passed or failed makes no difference for them to start residency? Why American students need to take CS, when only 4% failed (within the range of random error)? Is it true that all this is about "money"? 2, Is it fair only to have SPs to give you scores about Spoken English Proficiency and Interpersonal skills? Should USMLE record the encounter and have examinees' performance evaluated by physicians and language experts? $1,200 is a big money. Furthermore, failing CS can change your life forever. Please send in your comments and let's start to do something to make sure that USMLE palys a fair game for everyone. Frankly, Interpersonal Skills and Spoken English Proficiency are very subjective.
