Hi I am asian IMG, now take a course in france, and do not work here When i was in VN, I am rejected for student visa in 2001; I am going to take step 2 CS on november. Should i apply for the visa now ? So what kind of visa should i apply ? is it B1/B2 ? Which necessary document i should have to prove that i will not stay in US ? This is ridiculous to me, because most of the guys who take USMLE step will work and stay in US !!! Do i have to say i was rejected for visa one time, or i hide it ? Reeally need your help

when u apply the cs from ecfmg, mention that u need the visa recommendation letter, so they will send u this letter along with CS shedule permit. when u go to consular office, pls. show him/her yr personal ties eg. u have the family staying with u, job, salary slip, properties documents. all these sould like u have these ties which will make u come back after the training in USA. yes, it should be visitor visa B1. i think u should tell the truth in yr visa application form that u once been rejected. it should not have affect on yr application this time, i think. what if they have computerised all rejected applications and found out that someone lies....i don't know, thats what i'm thinking....anyway, all the best!!

oops now i see u r in frace (outide of yr own country), but one can apply any consular office one likes.....still u can mention the consular that u r here for the course and u will go back to yr country after the course and show the personal ties from yr country. even if u do not work, u can show family belongings like house, business documents of yr family that will make u come back after the training program in USA. (ofcourse we r potential immigrants and might settle our lives in US but its known but we never tell consulors, do we??)

I agree with rubyedward, and yes, you need only a B1/B2 visa.
