whats the treatment of hyperthyroidism age vise? whats r the indications for surgery?

Antithyroid drugs

Propylthiouracil and methimazole

Propanolol

Radioactive iodine ablation

surgery.

surgery in those in whom medical therapy fails

thats fine, but problem is age vise, which option to be chosen at what age?

generally treatment begins with antithyroid drugs (propythiouracil or methimazole)

surgery fo pt under 25 or pregnant women

radioactive iodine for pt over 40

pt 20-40; either approach is acceptable

(propranolol is used to control syntoms during thyroid storms)

actually during pregnancy PTU is the treatment of choice!
