Can someone please explain exactly how this works. We learned this, but I'm not sure I understand the exact reason (T depend. vs indep, etc.) thanks

Inorder for a vaccine to be a T-cell dependent,it should have a peptide component.The reason is because the T-cells recognize only antigens with a peptide component presented to them on the the groove of mhc II of antigen presenting cells.The H.influenzae capsule is composed of polyribitol,which is not a peptide.So it has to be attached with a peptide like diphteria or N.meningitidis outer membrane proteins. Hope it is clear!

if i remember correctly the same thing is done for pneumococcal 23 serotype vaccine! can some confirm it?
