Can someone please explain exactly how this works. We learned this, but I'm not sure I understand the exact reason (T depend. vs indep, etc.)

thanks

Inorder for a vaccine to be a T-cell dependent,it should have a peptide component. The reason is because the T-cells recognize only antigens with a peptide component presented to them on the the groove of mhc II of antigen presenting cells. The H.influenzae capsule is composed of polyribitol, which is not a peptide. So it has to be attached with a peptide like diphteria or N.meningitidis outer membrane proteins.

Hope it is clear!
