to vijay/moni 1)read the topics u get in usmleworld/kaplan in questions.say u get pregnancy and bleeding read that section in your book.By reading like that u will be covering the most imporatant areas where we can score. i read OBG:Blue prints, kaplan peds:blueprintsk kaplan surg:kaplan medicine:Nothing specific but CMDT more often. questions are in between kaplan and usmle world in severity.do both as they are 2 different types.don't just read explanation given in qbanks read the book. hope this helps.having said all this luck is important as well.as u already know there is not much difference between 230-250 but ur score can change from 90-99 in between so if on nbme u fall in this range push harder as each question will increase ur 2 digit score. but my question is do scores matter for an IMG ???Isn't it the visa status that matters most

Hi, Thanks for ur reply. Are u from India.I am from India. I think good scores fetch a lot especially for imgs .But I guess step 3 matters more for visa conversion. Are you on a f1 visa or visiting visa or do you have a green card.If you have the last one I think it helps a lot But the best for you will be probably to try a prematch and if you get a good insti u can join that, if not go for match. That is what I heard.Hope this helps.Do with ur step3 first. Anyways can you tell me how many times did you revise precisely for step 2.Does a 1st aid help. Bye, Vijay..

TO VIJAY I am not in US at moment . i am in uk .i only have a b1/b2 visa.i'll give a try at residency if i get it fine or else even better i'll pack up and head home-INDIA.any way i'll see what happens?I don't have option of getting a green card through backdoor as i am already happily married for studying i read the books i could get hold of once may be twice just read them. as far as time scale i had my uk exams in between. i took step1 in dec .then prepared for my mrcp finals till end of feb.then stared my step2 prep and took exam at end of april all in all 8 weeks 2hrs /d weekdays and 6hrs sat/sun.i think preparing for mrcp covered the medicine bit so i spent my time on rest of subjects. i did not read first aid for step2.for step1 first aid was nice. to ria, i read blue prints pediatrics whole of it.having said that i did not remeber even 5%of it .just read it like a novel and may be it helped;i'd stress more on kaplan material.

TO VIJAY.. DEAR VIJAY NO OFFENSE BUT WHY DO LOT OF INDIANS USE THE WORDS "WRITE THE EXAM " INSTEAD OF TAKE THE EXAM??? COZ IF WE THINK CAREFULLY WE DONT REALLY DO NO WRITING JUST CLICKING!!! AS ITS A COMPUTER BASED MCQ EXAM!! GIVE IT A THOUGHT!!

hello bharatbhai i am an img just outta med school. gave the first step and awaitin results. wil most probably stand for the 2007 match. so might have time after i give my stap3 for mrcp part1. i wanted to know the requirements and details about mrcp. every1 around here is very fuzzy about it. i have completed my mbbs but am studying full time. am i eligible for part1. also wat are the requirements for part2. lets say i do my residency in usa - then can i simply give part2 and provided i pass it, bcome an mrcp? or will they require clinical experience in a specified institute in uk for the same.. hope to hear from u soon apurva

To apurva MRCP has 3 steps MRCP-1/mrcp-2 requires you to be 18 m in clinical training so 12m of house surgeoncy in india will count for it if you are a post graduate you can take it straight way PACES requires 18m acute medical experience at SHO(resident)level and you can put your post graduate experience from some countries towards it(pakistan is one! i do not know about US/india).PACES is clinical and pass percent for IMG's is 20-30% and if you are not used to UK system,it might be more difficult. I think as far as US is concerned there is no clinical exam after residency and beleive me PACES is a tough one with real cases and diagnosing after examining in 5 min will put you to test especially if you are being watched by 2 examiners having said all the above loads of img's pass mrcp.it's not easy but acheivable hope it helps
