one is the the reason for the other... acute hepatic failure should not be a diagnosis. It is most of the time secondary to something...like fulminant hepatitis.

FHF is a term used to discribe coagulopathy and encephalopathy as a result of acute hepatic decompensation within 8 weeks from the onset of illness.

FHF may result from a variety of disease processes.Viral hepatitis and hepatotoxic drugs are two most common causes

acute liver failure is decompensation of liver functions within 8 weeks of onset of hepatocellular injury and if pt . develops hepatic encephalopathy within the same period its called fulminant hepatic failure.

Where have you found these deffinitions?
In my books, FH is a diagnosis supported by bioptic&imagistic&clinical data yealding massive hepatic necrosis. AHF is the physiopathologic consequence of FH although FH is not the only cause of AHF.
