hi everyone is it possible to get into a fellowship without doing residency? also is ecfmg certificcation a must for that?or are there any advantages of being certified? does a fellowship programme with ecfmg cert ,without residency ,give access to clinical stuff like examining the patients ,taking treatment decisions etc? please reply

certain fellowships in ortho,ob/gyn,surgery can be done without residency. u need to be ecfmg certified for doing a fellowship, though . it does give u access to clinical stuff including patient examination & treatment decisions. many people do fellowships before residency.the advantage is u might get a few months waived for residency ! GL & keep trying !

Other fellowships are some of the IM subspecialities, hem. nephro and cardiology. It doesn't always work, though. You would still have to do IM residency and ABIM boards to become a board certified physician in the USA - which would affect your status at hospitals and with insurance companies. If you are not planning on remaining in the USA, it's a shot.
