hi george I am trying for step one the second time.I failed with 69/169.I am a new mother, tried to sit for exam with a complicated pregnancy but couldnot make it. I didnot do qbank the last time. Now i am doing it.I am an img,was an average student.I did the first test without reading any explainations and scored 55%.I am doing micro, everytime i am getting average of 45-55%. I am not reading the explainations yet.just reading the theory and doing timed mode tests.I am really discouraged by people saying they scored 70+ in q bank.I dont know how to do q bank.Should I read theory and do questions i have never used before.Or I read explainations and theory and do used questions and expect 70+.It is just not possible for me to score 70 by just reading books and doing unused questions.I AM JUST NOT SCORING HIGHER THAN 55%. please advise me.I feel depressed and about to give up.

you need to clear step1 and both step2 to apply for residency. you may get interviews with just step 1 and step2ck but not that many unless you get really good scores. if not then they will wait for your cs result to give yo ua position. i know cuz my bro in law went thru it being an IMG. he got more interviews after he had his cs result. drkps

Hello Step 1 mom, sorry for the delay, just finished with step 2, first of al take heart to get 85 + is very easy if u sit down and relax a bit, my advice to u is to read kaplan notes plusy high yield in the areas as mentioned in my first post without trying to remember anything. Then takes first aid and read it well once. All this u should do it over 1.5 2 months from now. After thaat start doing questions fromkaplan or bss qbank, see why u r getting wrong and correct ur mistakes. remember the harder u try to learn sometimes paradoxically u tend to forget everything. Best of luck and tell if u need more help.

Hey george, Congrats on your score! I am 2nd yr MBBS student in India. What I would like to know that which would be better: to give step 1 during MBBS( maybe some months after 2nd prof) or after or during internship? If former is better, then how should i go about managing my studies ie. both MBBS and Mle prep. Also please suggest books to be read for 2nd prof MBBS if final aim is to clear USMLE. Also someone was telling me that you cannot step 1 again for 6 yrs Is this true. Also what kind of scores are reqd for a good residency in the US considering that i already have a green card, so no visa problems.

Hello Cooldoc TAKE UR STEP 1 AS WELL AS STEP 2 after MBBS , preferably after internship, test is very practical, exam is nothing big, so enjoy ur studies try to read our Indian books as of now, thay r much more detailed. Score is not the only thing that matters, ur academic perfomances and research all matter. Try to get some research in the speciality of ur choice. best of luck for ur studies. if u pass step 1 once u cannot take it till the scores become invalid i.e 7 yrs !

Hello drsnq, there must be a mistake in the learning strategy, are u full time into studies or do u have a job. Any way you have still abut 45 days so read first aid plus atleast one book for each subject. do daily mcq's + remember to score good all u need is > 68 % or odd.

Hello Malena, for a pg in medicine, u really need not worry much. 5 months is more than enough, could u squeeze 20 days leave before the d day. Stick tyo what I have said, revise and practice . Try to finish one round as soon as possible. Hello karyosome, i think i a very good estimate from the experience of mine as well as my friend and classmate who too scoed well is in step 1 you should get atleast 72 - 75% right to have a good score. i think I scored around 75%, from my experience in wirting all the inidan pg entrances. One important thing is there is no negative marking so it is not all that difficult. USMLE Gladiator if u have time go through step 2 ck notes from kaplan for medicine alone, it will help, dont waste time with any thing else. USMLE world is very vast, so dont even think about of it.
