 Hello everyone! I was wandering here for a while but still be clean and immature... I'm old (hate this word- OLD) IMG without US experience and immigration problems (what is more important by the way?) One morning I woke up with the idea that I should try to take USMLE, then I did some reserch on-line and I was not surprised at all that chances to get into any residency are very weak for people like me. My major in Med. School was Peds. So, is anybody here would be so nice and kind to advice me IS THERE A REAL POSSIBILITY TO GET MYSELF IN RESIDENCY? Do I need to spend my time for preparing for the exam? I'll accept all opinions with gratitute

Hi Minsk,
It seems from ur post that u r living outside of US currently. If that is so, getting a visa for US may pose a real problem. So I would suggest that u should find out about US embassy's visa policies for doctors in ur country.
As for being an old IMG, I know that goes against us too, as program directors often don't want any one who graduated more than 5 (or 10) years ago. And this is understandable. But then again year of graduation can be made a little more palatable by getting a good score in steps, and also by applying to as many community programs as u can find and thus hopefully improving ur chances of residency. And ultimately we can only make an honest effort. The rest is in God's hands.

Hi minsk,
If you one morning woke up with the idea to take USMLE, you should really try to take this test.
Don't worry about residency right now. Everything is possible. BTW where are you from? Minsk??? I am old grad. from Russia.
