could someone please tell me the visa requiremtns for doing a research elective. the university wants me to apply for a F1 but my friends say its easier to apply for the B1/B2 and cheaper...im really confused...

F1 is if you're a student in a research program.
B1/B2 is social visit.....you're merely volunteering for a research program.
One can also do research on a J1 visa.....which is more relevant in an exchange /sabbatical program.
